January 9, 2025 2.0 MasterControl Mx was not built with production operations in mind. It is difficult and slow for operators to use when compared to paper. Try other softwares. For the price you are going to pay, you are going to be overwhelmed with bugs, defects, and poor support (months for tickets to get resolved). Pros \-Integration of Quality Documents -Removal of paper from the production floor. -Accountability of who enters data in production Cons \-Customer Support is slow and usually can't go anything. They just blame the product design and say the product is working as designed. -Software is extremely slow for operators to use -Software is full of bugs that make building and using templates difficult -Feature called "Product Families" is poorly designed and is not usable with most of the other functions in the module. -Building templates is slow and cumbersome and lacks basic features like copy/paste for more than one item at a time. -Barcode scanning functions are too basic to be used effectively in a manufacturing environment. -Product managers assigned to launching Mx do little to nothing to support you. -UI is not well designed for a production environment when operators are wearing gloves and PPE. The service from consultants and services in general are great Pros The implementation process with the tool to build “skeleton BR” is awesome. We reduced the timeline to build all our templates significantly by using these compacted portions of BR that then we merge to cover the process. Cons There is a different approach later when all the BR are in production to execute a revision that is to be applied to groups of products or all the BR, as these revisions cannot be executed in bulk. When I use mastercontrol it it has the features I need to do my job. I like how the documents for my department are organized and structured. Pros The process is streamlined to the point of everything being labeled/named for what specific part of the job I need. Cons When too many people are on the system at the same time there is a massive slowdown. Sometimes it moves slowly to a crawl that barely anything can get done. When a page goes missing that causes us to have to destroy the batch since we are not able to verify that information. Pros Mx has been great to streamline our production paperwork. We do not have to print and review and autoclave our batch records in order to start production. Given we do not have to spend that time, we are able to start production quicker maximizing our time in the cleanroom. Mx also helps to minimize corrections and errors the technicians may make compared to handwriting each entry. It also helps to save time and make the review process easier since there is not the hassle of trying to decipher handwriting and tracking people down for corrections. Cons The system itself is great, however, it takes a while to build each template and put it through the testing process. This is a company issue though but is starting to ease up due to hiring extra Mx builders to assist in getting more templates available for the production environment. Review Source SG Seamus G. I find that this software provides a lot of consistent value to the company. It's impossible to consider going back to paper batch records. It can be tedious to manage, but possible to do so with a very small team. The platform is also intuitive and easy to learn. Pros Electronic batch records are a good option for digitizing manufacturing and creating value through improved efficiency and better quality. MasterControl's Mx production records is one of the best options in the field. Cons The company has a great willingness to improve their software, and has share the roadmap for good improvements down the line. We have eliminated so many clunky and outdated processes by switching to Electronic. Pros MasterControl has greatly improved our efficiency as an organization. The paper process was incredibly time consuming and opaque but with eBRs we can issue new records in record time. The visibility into the data and being able to look into what has been done when has been a great help. No more digging through off-site storage to find a specific record from years ago. We can all access what we need online. Cons It can be difficult to find the proper view when opening a record. It defaults to sections I do not need and has to reset after opening a useful section. Pros The Mx is very user friendly and easy to build templates. Simplify production process documentation as many fields can be automated. Cons The customer support is not the best, we have had many issues with records with issues that results in delays in release of product. The issues are backend and require MasterControl to resolve. The savings we have had as a company just from moving away from paper records is worthwhile enough, but the modular nature and no-code simplicity of the interface has allowed us simplify all of our records in a way that was easy to implement. Also, the interface with our quality system was seamless and API integrations are something we are looking forward to putting in place. MasterControl is also constantly improving their software to provide more and more functionality to its end users and the customer service experience has been excellent Cons Integrating with regulatory, validation of templates, and some small lags are the main issues or services that we have not taken advantage of yet. Lot number control ensures numbers aren't skipped and the ability to filter records between various products is extremely useful. Mx Builder is user friendly and intuitive to use. Regex expressions allow you to define user inputs, decreasing entry errors. Cons Reporting and data analysis is a bit challenging. Insights is an improvement from Jreports, however, there is still quite a learning curve before the module becomes useful. I have used manual batch records in the past and it can be challenging in running a process and ensuring that the document is not damaged as well as being unable to read someone's handwriting or managing printouts/attachments. The eBR is more efficient and I like that a user has to be trained before being able to perform a task in the eBR. Pros I did not participate in the configuration. However, I have used the Production Record Solution to issue electronic batch records. Cons I do not like the search function. It can be challenging to search for a completed production record. Some of the fields have too many options for completed records. October 12, 2017 4.0 Pros Everything an end user could ever want or need from a QMS comes together in such a way that our end users believe in magic. Its really up to the company (and sometimes department) to decide what level to use the software on. Its easy to get creative with this product and really optimize a already great web based software. Everything is right there, right at your fingertips - all the time! Cons Sadly, the set up is not magical and not everyone can wrap their head around the system. Finding competent admins could be an issue. Everything does effect everything else in this system and you need to ahave the forsight to see and understand that. My largest complaint however is that the company could also be more forth coming with issues within their software. They have a lot of what they call bugs. I think these "bugs" are often not fully vetted until a customer points them out, then I imagine there is a lot of running around and work arounds. It has many opportunities for expansion through additional modules. The Sales and Customer Service staff is amazing in every way, especially by being patient and courteous, but also extremely knowledgeable! Our company brought in MC to fill a need in electronic document management control. But we did not realize how much we needed it for our processes and procedures specifically! It is so adaptive and configurable that it meets our needs in almost ever way. Cons It has a large price tag, but it is backed up by service, support, and exceptional functionality. Our own version is not the latest and greatest, so it does not have all the bells and whistles. But what it does have suits our needs very well. However, there are some limitations on hardware and software requirements that do conflict with other parts of our infrastructure. We are having to make compromises in some areas. But as soon as we can upgrade to the latest version, many of our issues will be resolved and we will be able to add even more functionality and capabilities.
