I use the free version and use get some great features for free. I set up weekly campaigns and send out to different groups, ie schools and nurseries. I have draft emails that are easy to amend and make copies of to keep and amend at future dates. I love how you can look back in each campaign to see the percentage of opened emails and also who has clicked on links. So easy to keep your contacts all in once place and organised in groups. In that experience, I had never encountered this level of operational intrusion. After onboarding, importing my list, and preparing campaigns, my campaign was placed on hold for manual review. EmailOctopus later confirmed that my campaign did not violate any compliance rule. Despite this, they manually opened and reviewed my private campaign content and initiated an extended investigation into my internal business processes, lead acquisition methods, and data structure. They questioned: Why some contacts did not have “first names” (even though my form only collects a single name field) Why B2B contacts used role-based emails (info@, hello@, etc.) How my internal workflows operate How leads are processed internally All contacts were first-party, permission-based, and obtained through legitimate business channels. No purchased or scraped data was used. Instead of relying on standard industry indicators (complaints, bounce rates, engagement, unsubscribe rates), the platform relied on subjective manual reviews and repeated documentation requests. This created delays, uncertainty, and business risk. At some point, continuing would have required disclosing sensitive internal company processes just to send lawful campaigns. Recommendation EmailOctopus may be suitable for hobby projects or very small personal lists. For professional, B2B, or client-facing email marketing, I cannot recommend it due to unpredictable compliance enforcement and excessive operational interference. As an ESP, we're obligated to ensure mail sent through our platform meets legal requirements. In this case, our system flagged the campaign and a manual review followed. We identified patterns in the contact list — including a high volume of role-based addresses, which commonly appear in purchased lists — that didn't align with the collection method described. We asked some routine questions to understand the gap. Reviewing campaign content and asking new senders about list acquisition is standard practice across the email industry. It's essential for maintaining strong relationships with inbox providers and protecting deliverability for all our customers. Unfortunately, you weren't willing to provide the information we needed, so we made the decision not to continue supporting the account. Jaime H. They aren't always hounding me to upgrade, which is refreshing. Could I handle prettier emails? Sure, but I don't feel that's top priority for me right now. The priority is getting something written and out to my list. In fact, keeping it simple with their drag and drop method gets me in and out of the platform fast and allows me to get back into my studio and onto the things that drive my business... making my paintings. Pros To be honest, the thing I like most is that EmailOctopus is free. As a small art business, I watch costs very closely. I like that my account with EmailOctopus will grow only as I grow. As I grow my list, which means I have more opportunity to earn more, then I don't mind paying for features that I'll probably need down the line. Also, it's a simple to use platform which I appreciate. I have easy access to my data (my list). Another thing that I like is that they implement a verification process to get into my account. It's simple and fast yet gives a sense of protection that I want. Cons Some things I like least about EmailOctopus would be that I don't have access to my data reports for each individual campaign for very long. I think it's 2 weeks. However, they do give you the option to download them as a csv which is nice. You just need to catch it in time and download. Of course if you upgrade to a paid version you have access to your data at any time. Not having long term access is a price I'm willing to pay at the moment. The emails are fairly simple to make, however as a past graphic designer, I find myself wondering why the platform won't do a certain thing design wise but it's never been a big deal. So far it has been a joy to use and at some point I will go on the paid plan. Pros I have used other platforms, but I wasn't satisfied with the quality and ease of use. As a teacher, time is limited so this saves time and makes it easy for parents to view. I love the. schedule feature and being able to see who has or hasn't opened their email. At first I was worried I might need analytics, which EmailOctopus does not offer, but information about who opens an email is saved for two weeks, which is more than enough to understand how people received it and why an email might not have been opened. Pros EmailOctopus is simple and has everything I need to keep in touch with my followers. It's a great tool for busy people who want to get stuff done and don't want to get caught up in all the "little things" competitors offer. And it's free! Cons Sometimes, moving blocks of text and images around can be buggy and/or difficult, especially on long newsletters. Menopause Coach and Champion Health, Wellness and Fitness Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Top Customer Service and Support" May 22, 2025 5.0 Really good, as I said in particular the support and follow up afterwards with an email with the conversation so if they have added links to demonstration videos you can go back to them easily Pros I have found the support via the chat box really helpful when starting out with creating campaigns, automations, merge tags etc. Each time the team member has come online quickly, been really responsive to answering my query and checking that the issues have been resolved satisfactorily before signing off. Top customer service! Cons I have found the merge tags confusing, as they seems to work sometimes and not other times. Once the save function just decided to not work and the campaign did not save any of the work I had done which had taken me all morning. thankfully I had saved some of my content on a word document so was able to get it back but it added a lot of extra work and time. Our subscribers are receiving their emails. Pros A free platform where I can schedule emails to be sent. It is very user-friendly and easy to use. The email designs are customizable. I haven't received a single complaint from a subscriber about not receiving our emails, so this is dependable. If you have an issue or question, the customer service is excellent. Cons Their embedded forms don't allow subscribers to choose which of our emails they'd like to receive. It only allows them to subscribe to all.
