Families love being able to talk to the classroom teachers and stay up-to-date with what their child is doing each day. Pros Being able to message parents, send pictures, send updates and stay in contact with the families is the best part of the app. We love it as a school and the parents love it even more! Cons There can be some confusion when checking students in and out and using name-to-face but once you know the difference it becomes easy to use. I love the added peace of mind. Pros I can look and see what my child has been doing all day, how and what she's eating, and teachers can update me if there are any issues or simply if she's just having a great day. Cons I'd like it better if the attachments showed as a photo that I could zoom in and read instead of having to download and open in a separate pdf or document viewing software. The communication tool helps bridge the gap between home and school. The billing function takes out any awkwardness of having to address certain fees. It's easy to use. It saves us so much time and our parents love it as well. Pros Billing and messaging are the two features we like the most. Cons The only think I don't like is that I can't delete admissions forms or delete a student from our account. We have children fill out a form that we weren't able to enroll and now that child is linked to our account even though they aren't active. Pros About brightwheel brightwheel is a product arrangement worked to modernize all childcare, childcare, and preschool programs by working all the more easily, make do with less manual work, and in particular, offer back opportunity to those taking care of the prosperity of kids all over the place. brightwheel's apparatuses and highlights are fabricated, and continually refreshed, in organization with proprietors, chiefs, and educators working in mid-to high-limit ECE programs. Key highlights are the consistent registration/out include, instinctive parent interchanges, and straightforward action logging for computerized everyday sheets. Every one of those and considerably more remembered for the back-end business devices connected with charging, detailing, and information the board. It keeps everything more organized and efficient to gather the data. Pros i love the effectiveness on payments, the options for parents to pay their bills either with card or through ach payments and that they receive their invoices automatically. Cons that we have to set it up ourselves, but we had guidance so it wasn't bad. Generally, as a parent I am mostly interested in photos and videos of my kid and maybe a short description of her day. I do not need to see all the details like food, naps, potty as separate sections. I can imagine how much time it takes for teachers to fill out all the information for each kid. Pros I like that the application allows to set up payments of tuitions. Moreover, you can set up autopayments and should never worry about it again. The section of payment is generally done well: I did not have any issues connecting my bank accounts to the application, I have the whole history of payments in my account, I see pending status and so on. But this is probably only thing that I like in Brightwheel. Cons Unfortunately, there are some issues with the Payments section. The link "Print Invoice" does not work for me, so a daycare had to send me the invoice via email. One day (when I did not have autopayments set up) I stopped receiving notifications from Brightwheel about new invoices. As result, I was late to pay and our daycare charged me a late payment fee. Since the time I never received any notifications from Brightwheel again. I set up the autopayments with Brightwheel but honestly now I am scared to trust it again, so I prefer to pay before a deadline myself, I use my apple calendar to send me notifications every month. We liked moving to a cloud based product and the flexibility that gave our administrators and parents. We enjoy the ability for parents to see their billing and the ability to pay through the app. Customer support for the transition and set up was very good. Since launch, customer support is responsive (not always timely, since we are not in the same time zone as many of the customer support team) and they listen to our needs. There have been great changes in the short time we have been using the software. We are looking forward to the remainder of our concerns being addressed as we move forward. I would recommend this software over other cloud based software programs we looked at, but the consumer should be aware of the limitations of the software from a back office stand point. Pros What we like best is this is a cloud based software. The parent portal allowing parents better access to their child's day and classroom progress as been extremely well received by our parents. We like the check-in feature which allows us to know at any time how many children are in the facility. The ability for the teachers to post notes / pictures for parents allows the parents real time updates instead of waiting till the end of the day to receive a hand written note that is stuffed in the child's belongings and forgotten. Cons The back office side of the software is lacking. The reporting capabilities of the software is very limited. For example, we are unable to run an accounts receivable report by family. We can run by child, but you have to run multiple reports for families with more than one child in the program. The software does not currently allow for prepayments or credits on account. Also, on the program side, no ability to run facility or even classroom wide reports - for example a parent directory for all classrooms; allergy report by classroom. All reporting (financial and program) is child driven without the option of classroom or facility driven. This makes extra back office work for our staff - for example creating an allergy list or parent directory in excel to share with teachers. Customer service is helpful, and I love how it makes my job so much easier. Pros I love how it takes care of the billing aspect basically for me. It also gives notification when kids are due for updated shots, etc. I love being able to have communication with parents without them having my cell phone. I love being able to show off all the hard work we do via brightwheel. I love the record keeping. Cons I always was able to share any feedback I had at any time and was well received. Pros Daily information. Meal planning. Payments are easy. I get updates on milestones and other progress and I can provide feedback or ask questions in a way that enables the staff at my kids day care to respond in time with thorough answers. It's so convenient that all of the tools that I need to run my school is in this one product! We use most of the functions especially check in/out for students and staff (helps us with payroll), messages, newsletter, activity and billing all the time. Cons We would like to learn more about the learning feature of brightwheel. I would like the calendar to allow to select multiple dates for one event. I am excited for the day when I can plug in my state and the rules and guidelines would be integrated into the services that brightwheel offers. Pros We use as a communication tool for staff to parent and staff to staff. I has helped include everyone quickly and easily in a texting type of communication. Cons I wish our forms and state mandated documents could be uploaded into the system so that we could be paperless. Then all of our documents could be accessed when needed. Pros I really appreciate most aspects of the communication system for staff and parent clients as well. I like the billing and account systems a lot. I appreciate that lesson plans, invoices, in real time teacher-parent communications are all in real time and at access to the parents at all times. Cons I wish there were a way to upload our curriculum goals ad objectives into the system in order to make lesson planning, learning observations and child assessments more connected and seamless. I also wish that there were a way to pause messaging overnight or weekends short of signing out. It would be great to be able to set an out of office on messaging. Pros I love that you can download an app on your phone and can see when your children are checked in and out and what they are doing throughout the day. It’s easy to use and communicate through the app to the teachers and caregivers. Cons I don’t like that I have to remember a code to check the children in and out. November 27, 2018 5.0 We do not otherwise incorporate tech into our business, we use Quickbooks and simple excels, Brighthweel has not had a crazy learning curve and its just a great product. Pros We use Brightwheel chiefly for its billing functionality and to meet State licensing requirements regarding records of attendance, ratios, sign in and out, etc. These are records you have to keep for years and the stacks of Bankers boxes were towering! Now we can upon request create and print any report, for instance our licensor could request sign in and out records from a certain classroom on a certain date--it can be provided way faster than digging through those old paper files. Name to face attendance can be achieved confidently with the picture bubbles for all your students--you can feel confident as an admin that all transitions and ratios are covered For billing it is clean and streamlined--you can create plans, parents can establish autopay, they have constant access to their receipts and invoices, end of the year statements, your EIN, etc. It is a win win for both us as bookkeepers and for our parent clients. The interface is very clean--sign up is a breeze for new children and it would be very challenging to get confused on the parent screen. Brighthwheel saves us time AND paper. Cons Here is the thing--Brightwheel is constantly developing. So if you were to have a con you can feel assured your feedback will be heard. We have been with them nearing 3 years and have watched so many features get added on and updates made. They take customer feedback seriously and want to understand the industry's needs--we have had conference calls with developers and participated in a lot of dialogue about what we need and what works well. I tried to call them, but they don't have any phones available for the costumers to call for support. I email them and I've been told that someone will help me on the phone after three days...That was the first available date to speak with the support team. Now, two days later I still cant use the app because I'm waiting for help. I chatted with someone as well and she sent me videos, that are available in YouTube and I already watched before I called, but I didn't find the answer there. Also she told me how to log in like I didn't know that. It was very unprofessional and disappointing not to receive help once when you needed it . Pros Its easy to use, but only if you don't have technical issues. Cons Luck of people to support you when you have problem and when you need immediately help to restore the issue and using the program again. Sometimes not knowing how the day is going or if drop off is a little rough emotionally for him, it's awesome to see that he's having fun with his friends. Cons I don't have a lot by way of improvement only because I only use a few features and both suit me very well. I like having an almost all-in-one solution for our software needs as a daycare, and Brightwheel is super easy for our parents and our teachers. I would highly recommend it to other daycares. I am hoping the accounting portion of the software becomes more professional. Pros Our parents LOVE Brightwheel! It's easy, it's quick, and it connects them in real-time to what's going on with their children. They love getting pictures of their kids during the day. We love that the parents actually use it, are involved in the flow of information, and communicate with us through it. Cons The financial portion of the software needs a lot of improvement. I can't tie sibling billing statements together - this creates unessessary payments because parents should be able to make one single transaction to pay all of their unpaid invoices at once. Also, I have found it extremely difficult to see all the information clearly that I need to for bookkeeping. I can't see on each invoice what the daycare was charged in the way of a transaction fee. I know the total we are charged, but I need to know on each individual invoice. Plus, Brightwheel wants me to create a report to see information, instead of simply having it all visible in a list when I pull up the account. Side note: it would be great if we could have a tablet attached to a classroom account, rather than every device being attached to an employee account. I don't want my staff on their phones all day, so we use classroom tablets to interact with Brightwheel - all are logged into the director's account, so notes posted have my name on all of them. It's confusing to the parents. Plus, we have staff who are also parents of students; they can't see a parent account for their child - they are locked into the staff account. Our teaching staff is struggling with how to incorporate into their daily teaching regime. I hope they can work with the program over the summer. Pros As administrator I use Brightwheel daily for most administrative jobs. The sign-in and sign-out has been a blessing. No more typing up sign -in sheets and tallying who is hear and who is absent. We also use the messaging for parent and staff. No more having to add parents and or staff to my personal phone. Cons The set up and getting started has a learning curve that takes time to learn. Cons I don't have a solid chunk of time to just sit down and learn this program so for me it was the time spent kearning.
