### "MSP Help Desk Manager 3 Year Veteran of ConnectWise Automate"

January 5, 2026

4.0

I really liked how it did everything I was used to and because of my change in access over my previous position I could tinker with the automation and create better efficiencies for our clients.

Pros

I like how accessible it is and the ease of use. I went from Datto to CW Automate which was like night and day in a positive way.

Cons

The UX design was very simple and was not as flashy as what I was used to previously I got used to it eventually.

### "Powerful Automation with a Steep Learning Curve"

December 12, 2025

4.0

Overall, the experience was very positive. Although I initially struggled with the platform, the support was phenomenal, and the onboarding process was a massive help. It greatly improved our network monitoring and, as a result, enhanced our security. It did take some time for the business to upskill and fully utilize the tool effectively.

Pros

It is a very powerful tool; when you are highly skilled in scripting, you can fully leverage the level of access and control it provides. The automation of monitoring and alerting is a major strength, enabling proactive and preventative maintenance rather than reactive support.

Cons

To properly utilize the platform, there is a steep learning curve, making it best suited for businesses that can invest the necessary time and resources. Due to the vast range of customization options, it can be overwhelming initially and may feel as though you are not getting full value for money until the tool has been fully learned and adopted.

Reason for choosing ConnectWise Automate

The overall power of the platform and the increased level of customization it provides.

We required a more powerful and scalable tool capable of supporting the business’s growing technical requirements, while also providing improved stability and reducing the operational issues experienced with previous solutions.

### "A powerful solution, with a complicated setup"

September 26, 2025

3.0

Our overall experience with the software was positive, although when ConnectWise came out with their new RMM platform, simply titled 'RMM', we jumped at the chance to swap to a natively web-based RMM solution. ConnectWise Automate has its place in history, and I'm pleased I got to use it for a time.

Pros

ConnectWise Automate is the legacy RMM platform by ConnectWise themselves. The product is highly skilled at implementing automation into your business and driving security with automated scripting. Furthermore, it's integration with ScreenConnect allows for easier remote access to computers for your engineers, should you wish to leverage that. I would say for the features that it offers, it is good value for money. Customer support from ConnectWise has always helped us figure out how to achieve our goals.

Cons

The platform shows its age and its menus are slow and sometimes unresponsive for periods of time. It has a steep learning curve and will likely take one fully dedicated individual or a small team of people slowly learning it before you'll be able to take advantage of the software fully.

### "Automate good but not at scale."

June 11, 2025

4.0

I love the tool. It's unfortunate that it ceases to work beyond a certain size. If ConnectWise can push similar features into their new RMM , then it would be a good day.

Pros

It's the most flexible solution for RMM's on the market at current state. Great tool if you need to design a custom experience.

Cons

It does not scale well beyond 10000 endpoints and the ConnectWise support and partnership is relatively poor in the industry.

### "Connectwise Automate"

December 11, 2019

5.0

We are using Connectwise Automate for taking care of customers on a managed service contract.

Pros

There are many, many features in Connectwise Automate that will help you help your customers with their computer needs.

Cons

Although the software is very feature rich, it seems very cumbersome and not easy to use from day one. In almost every step, we have had to take classes to figure out how to do things.

### "Powerful RMM tool, but learning curve can be steep"

July 28, 2025

5.0

Support is on top of simple questions, but if there is complexity, you may notice a small delay in resolution.

Pros

Its automation saves tons of time and lets us manage devices with ease. Remote monitoring is detailed, and the ScreenConnect integration makes remote support fast and reliable. Inventory tracking is solid. Reports are easy to run and give a clear picture of our hardware and software landscape.

Cons

The interface is clunky and old-school. You’ll need time to learn it before you can use the platform efficiently. As with most RMMs, it plays well with Windows but MAC and Linux are rough.

### "Complete and potent RMM and automation solution."

May 13, 2025

5.0

ConnectWise Automate represents a solution enabling us to automate recurring tasks, streamline our operational efficiency, enhance the management of our clients' endpoints, and, consequently, increase our profitability.

Pros

ConnectWise enables the automation of a broad range of tasks, encompassing software deployment, patch management, the resolution of common incidents, and the execution of tailored scripts. This considerably streamlines workflows.

Cons

I haven't found any weak points or inconveniences to mention in my analysis of this tool.

### "Powerful but very complicated and buggy to actually use"

October 27, 2025

2.0

It's a very powerful system, but from my experience it was buggy. I also had a 3rd party work on it with us and they were having a hard time getting PowerShell commands to work most of the time.

Pros

It's easy to add agents and new companies to the system. It's fast and very responsive to searching and finding agents.

Cons

It does not come with a good set of default commands. It can use some work in that area. Some things were out of date as well.

### "Greatly customizable, but often confusing"

April 30, 2025

4.0

My overall experience has been both good and bad. I like Automate because we can do a lot with it. But its often complex and confusing. The one thing ConnectWise has got right though is Screenconnect/Control. Best remote access program I have ever used.

Pros

Automate is incredibly customizable. It allows us to build what we need most of the time.

Cons

The complexity that comes with customization is often very difficult. Want to customize patch management? Good luck.

### "Automate is just another piece of software written once and not really maintained"

April 19, 2022

1.0

Pros

Patch management is way easier than using WSUS.

Cons

User interface is not intuitive. Lots of training required. Very little useful documentation. Connectwise support will not help you understand the scripting features at all. The documentation for scripting is litterally 4 pages of what you can see in the user interface. The scripts debug process is horrid. It takes 50x longer to do a script in automate over doing a powershell and bash script to do the same thing. Change requests, and features are not being answered or added in a timely manor. This software is stale.

### "Large MSP View"

March 19, 2021

3.0

My complaints aside, Automate has been a good investment for us. Although I must point out that support, while never the best, seems to have gotten worse over the past two years. This is a significant disappointment. Calling in a ticket seems to have vanished. Chat support rarely is able to resolve an issue on the first attempt. Indeed, it's pretty much a given that opening a case in chat will usually end up with the case being escalated.

Pros

The inclusion of ConnectWise Control is the single greatest part of using ConnectWise Automate. It is amazing. The scripting features are very good. The ability to create custom processes is exceptional.

Cons

The ability to monitor and manage network devices is not good at all. Automate struggles to manage devices across subnets that other platforms seem to be able to do with ease. So bad that we had to bring in Auvik to do this task. It was money we would have rather just spent with ConnectWise. Reporting is also a disappointment. The included reports are very simple and not geared toward a C level. They are also not easy to build or manipulate.

Reason for choosing ConnectWise Automate

What we saw at the time as a slightly better integration with ConnectWise Manage. However, I am not certain that argument would hold up today. The integration has changed little over the years and seems clumsy and out dated.

### "Beware of working with Conectwise Automate"

June 1, 2020

1.0

Terrible. Your RMM tool is really important and you want a company that is trying to help your business grow by having great additions for the platform and services that you can then offer your clients and perspective clients. Connectwise has wanted to exact as many dollars out of my pocket and have no intention of having a business relationship what so ever. In my 24 years in the industry I have never had a company treat me this way but they did and continue to. I have heard from 30+ other companies ceo's saying similar things that there is not partnership just a money grab.

Pros

The remote program is really good. Very simple and quick when a caller has called in.

Cons

First year was good. At the beginning of the second year they doubled the cost saying "its in the contract" I said I want to cancel or fix the price and for a year we went around in circles. "ok we will do at the same price you just need to double your agents" I don't need more agents. Then I had a new person over and over. I then send a formal letter to cancel service and they say we won't except this. I have now asked twice to move to 25 agents and again the same thing is happening.

Reason for choosing ConnectWise Automate

The platform had been around longer and had many endpoints so we assumed that with that many we would have more already created options to chose from rather than a new startup.

### "I believe this is still the best RMM around, but it's a bit clunky and often slow."

May 21, 2018

4.0

RMM, Scripting, Easy MSP setup and management of our clients systems.

Pros

If you can imagine it, you can do it. It really does have all the tools to do whatever you desire remotely. You can access almost any aspect of a managed machine without even interrupting the end user. The built-in ignite monitors are pretty amazing on their own.

Cons

It can be incredibly slow at times, you have to have a lot of patience. The script editor being object and mouse based is very clunky, I'd prefer to learn the syntax and just type it all out, but that option isn't readily available in the GUI you have to dig into the guts to do that. If you use ignite monitors you'll need to parse out the noise they create for items you don't want to be notified about. Integration with Connectwise Manage is still a bit quirky but it works.

### "When it works, I think it's fine"

November 19, 2020

1.0

It's like being a cook, but you're only allowed to use tin foil to hastily create all your cooking equipment, such as pans, spatulas, etc...

Pros

I like that when it works, some of its features like remote connectivity, accessing cmd without controlling the user's screen, and scripts make my job easier.

Cons

Once every other week I have to uninstall and reinstall the control center app to get it to load on my screen. I can log in, it will hang on "Building Searches" and disappear. The only fix I've been able to find is uninstall and reinstall, and I have to do that at least twice a month. The rest happen often despite multiple uninstall and reinstalls: Locks up in the middle of a job. Crashes in the middle of a job. Sometimes hitting control does nothing and I have to reboot to get it to work. Scripts also will work when they feel like working. 75% of my time, I have to use the online version because the desktop version is just way too buggy.

Reason for choosing ConnectWise Automate

I didn't choose it. My company has.

### "Great Software with a great learning curve"

January 20, 2017

4.0

I've been using it for 2 years now. Overall I'm impressed with the software. "Screenconnect" software is brilliant, fast and reliable connections to your managed agents. Pricing is competitive for what it delivers however it is expensive. Make sure you NEED all of it's features before investing otherwise your potentially just burning money you don't need too. However the learning curve required to get the best from this software is vast, documentation is sparse. The documentation that does exist is out of date. For example the knowledge base article regarding configuring the agent to utilise a proxy server doesn't seem to match up with the latest version. You're left either fending for your self on the forums or waiting in line for a chat with their tech support, which to be fair once you get there is very good. Looking elsewhere simply because of two price rises in 2016 with more likely in 2017.

Pros

Screenconnect - A real asset to the platform. Scripting Tunnel options - Can tunnel into your customer network using the agent. Powerful Automation and patch management

Cons

Complex Growing expense Out of date knowledge base / manuals.

### "The BEST tool for an IT Army of One"

April 26, 2019

5.0

Its a love/hate relationship, but mostly love. I fought to have this at my company and I can not do my job without it.

Pros

You can access it anywhere. If I am on vacation in Mexico and the office back in the states needs support, I just open up chrome and go to my custom made website that CW gave me and I am in. I can see everything about a persons computer by just scrolling side to side or double clicking. Their customer service is also 24/7 AND they assign you technicians to help with implementation along with connectwise university to ensure you are ready to use their product to the fullest extent!

Cons

Its sort of difficult to learn. They have the university that helps with that, but some of their classes are outdated and some just sprint through the lesson in the hopes that you might have caught a thing or two that they just taught you. Also, their scripting language is their own(proprietary) and you have to learn it. So if you already know Java, C++, Python, etc, it doesn't matter.

### "RMM"

April 17, 2019

5.0

This program helps us bring together all of our management abilities without the guessing game. Update and scripts works like a charm, ability to audit end user.

Pros

This RMM Toll will integrate with nearly every tool available. One pane of glass for management. Great support through implementation and afterward.

Cons

This can be costly and I would not suggest it for a small company. It takes a 2 to 6 months to be fully deployed depending on what your needs are.

### "Must have for MSP"

February 20, 2020

5.0

Have been using it for years, love it.. Price is a bit steep for someone just starting out, but otherwise it offers alot of function, and ease of use once everything is setup and you know how to use it.

Pros

For a small to midsized MSP, connectwise makes a few must-have's. Connectwise Automate makes it easy to monitor, and perform tasks on remote systems, as well as offers a decent out of the box ticketing system, with end user ease.

Cons

Many Many options, Which is good, but a pain to setup and have working how you want it. Should have more out of box preset configs to get up and running quicker.
