I can tell exactly which driver left the site at 14:23 and if they took the direct route or added 9 kilometers on me. That kind of visibility means I can actually quote delivery windows that clients believe. It’s worth every cent. Pros I manage three trucks hauling aggregate between quarry sites and clients. Before I started using Motive, I was calling my drivers half a dozen times a day just to ask where they were. It was a headache. Now, I can see exactly which truck is 11 minutes out from a delivery or still sitting at the loading dock. Cons The mobile app takes four taps to mark a load as complete when it really only needs one. Sometimes the GPS refresh lags by about two minutes when a truck hits a low-signal zone near our northern quarry, it always catches up once they’re back on the highway, though. This system allows us to coach poor performing drivers. Making them safer drivers while reducing accident frequency. Saving lives, saving accident injuries, and saving money is exactly what this system does. Pros Motive's ability to seamlessly integrate with our transportation management system is amazing! The tracking and monitoring ability that is provided by Motive, gives our organization real-time information as to where all of our vehicles are located at any given time. Yes, it even shows the vehicles traveling down the roadway in real-time. The monitoring system allows us the ability to coach drivers based on an actual scoring system that is provided by the telematics of the vehicle. Seeing (with video) how your drivers actually drive is so important. Drivers with poor driving habits are allowed to be identified and coached. This gives transportation risk management a whole new perspective allowing you to reduce incident frequencies. Cons It would be great if Motive could redesign how videos are catalogued when a driver creates an event. The ultimate benefit of this system is to eliminate risky drivers and reduce accident frequencies. Navigating around in this part of the system is a little "clunky" compared to some of the other telematics providers. For example, Activity report has Summary and Detail. You can see total mileage by date and period. It is very easy to check driving miles and idle time when you calculating the driver pay. Cons Drivers upload log sheets as documents. When I download them directly, it creates a PDF file. The first page is a useless header. If I want the image only, I have to click and download from the inside. It's not convenient. One of the first to offer a free to use/ try before you buy kind of deal. It was a great way to let people experience what would soon be coming down the road in the near future for HOS compliance... Literally! It was good back then and has only gotten better! Fast forward to 2026, the same awesome service plus some added features that stand at the top of the leader board with the best ELD products on the market. User friendly software on both ends for the driver and office management personnel, all with full FMCSA Compliance. Pros Easy for drivers to use and operate. Backend office is simple and easy to manage. FMCSA compliance is top priority. Help was normally just a phone call away if needing assistance. Cons Sales department. Never push or be over bearing. I watched our events that came in from our drivers and kept up with some DOT inspections that were due. Pros One good thing about Motive was the accuracy of the location of our assets and the event detection that would come from one of our drivers. Cons The only Con from me for Motive was it is very hard to get ahold of a live customer service agent. They always wanted you to use AI chats. Pros Motive is fairly easy to use, their desktop give easy access to vehicle tracking, as well as use of camera to record event. easy to download just need date and time of any incident you might want. we also use it for eld drive logging, lets us know if drive is short on hours or is in violation. maintenance tab helps keep track of up coming preventive maintenance that you may require. their billing is pretty standard in monthly or yearly charge. last DOT is very familiar with this system and have had no trouble getting info downloaded to them during an inspection. Cons biggest con is we run a lot of new york state toll roads and on ifta reports print out they do not break down toll miles vs regular road miles, just gives a total for the state. so drivers still have to manually keep a written record of toll miles. If you look at their faq page there it says they do but you have to go thru each trip, for each truck, each day. who has time to do that? customer service told us that after we called them on it.
