Overall, I love Toast. Easy to use, Efficient. User friendly, and gets the job well done. If i were to open a new restaurant, this is what I would use.

Pros

I love Toast. I am a waitress, and whenever I apply for a new waitressing gig, I am always very please if they use Toast.

Cons

There isn't much i don't like about Toast. Its pretty self explanatory and updates fairly quickly. Sometimes most of the aggravations come from managers not updating the information.

Positive, they have live support ready to answer most of our concerns. They have options for screen sharing as well. So you can show them what the issue is right on the POS.

Pros

Functionality, ease of use of the POS and tons of features and options that can be modified to our liking. AI driven campaigns and promos, with real time sales tracking.

Cons

If using multiple restaurants, and one employee works at two of them, the manager even with full access for the first restaurant, it cant make employees changes like wage or permission. That should be fixed by location, because that employee may work different positions with different permission….

### "Non recommended for Concession or Non-Profit"

Our requirements were for a simple POS with high rates of customer throughput at a concession. Similar to a football game at half time. The system is very capable,except for some issues with payment terminals that were eventually resolved. High paced concession throughput is a bit of a challenge. Our organization is a small non-profit with concession turnover less than $300k. All of our executive are volunteers and do not meet on a weekly or monthly basis. The TOAST support people seemed to be obsessed with communicating with the "owner" which there is none. We would get stuck in circular communications. I would not recommend TOAST for a non-profit. I do not believe a business owner would have the same issues.

Pros

TOAST POS is a very useful POS with great menus, good back end and reporting. We really like the integration to QBO using a third party tool. The startup and training is well done. The cost is double what we were paying before; however, the operational returns are well worth the cost.

Cons

TOAST support it very poor. We struggled to get payment terminals working correctly. Our customer facing team needs to deal with 3 to 5 walkup clients per minute. The team couldn't deal with troubleshooting terminals on the telephone with support and serving customers at the same time. The problem was solved by a technician looking at the transaction logs and sending a replacement terminal. Our biggest challenge was changing banks. We had three attempts to get the new banking set up, and received confirmation that the request was completed. This process took more than two months and included email, telephone, and service tickets. When our payments to TOAST stopped due to this problem, we got more attention. Unfortunately, TOAST support often sent requests to the wrong people, ignored our emails and comments in the service tickets, and asked for the same information several times. The support frustration and extra work do not make up for the good product.

Pros

I love the customization options!!! It’s so easy to add and publish new items on the go from the handheld devices or POS Stations.

Bugs. Lots of weird bugs and down time during dinner service!

VERY GOOD TO NAVIGATE AND ENTER INFORMATION FOR THE BUSINESS. IT IS EASY TO ADD AND EDIT ITEMS. ALSO TO ADJUST LAYOUT OF THE FLOORPLAN.

Pros

ACCESS TO CHECKS AND REPORTS. JUST WHAT YOU NEED ON EACH CELL. WORKS VERY WELL WITH RESTURANT NEEDS.

Cons

I AM NOT A FAN OF THE WHITE SHELL FOR THE EQUIPMENT AND THE STAND. IT SHOWS MORE DIRT THAT IS HARD TO PREVENT IN THE WORKSPACE.

It's been decent. The sales push was a bit too much. I felt rushed. The dangling of discounts that were going to expire etc...The system has worked well though for the last few years.

Pros

It's ease of use. The plug and play setup.

Cons

There's not enough of a rollout. Lots of seminars and video conferencing but for my personality, I would've liked to have a rep show me some hands on traning.

### "Toast POS is a good program for businesses"

My overall experience with Toast POS has been great. The only aspect I don't enjoy is the connectivity issues with external programs. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does, it creates issues. The software runs efficiently and the layout is very organized.

Pros

The aspects I enjoy about Toast POS is the security, card payment options, mobile access, and restaurant management options. I enjoy that the system will lock out after a period of time of not using it; prevents theft and guest information being leaked. I really enjoy that you can have tap-to-pay as an option; this really helps with efficiency. We also use the mobile options for bartenders so they can input the order in real-time while taking the order. Plus, the management options for Toast are very easy to learn and the layout is nicely organized.

Cons

The only aspect I don't enjoy about Toast POS is that it will have a difficult time communicating with an external software (Roommaster). The company I work for uses Toast POS to charge guests to their room number; sometimes the systems don't communicate and tabs are left unpaid.

Pros

Toast is best in class not only because of it's commitment to innovation but also the quality of customer service. No matter where I've implemented Toast, even when there were hiccups, customer support was always able to swoop in and provide the necessary resources to sort it out. Plus, they have one of the most expansive integrations stack in restaurant tech.

Cons

I would say the only thing about Toast that I don't like is their pricing for implementing integrations. Because even when the integration is necessary, myself or my consulting clients have a hard time justifying the additional spend over necessary expenses.

Overall my experience with toast has been positive, I haven’t had too many bug issues. Easy to use software with a lot of good features.

Pros

Toast is a user friendly POS for restaurant management. I’m able to access the account on the mobile version when I’m not in house. Customer support is excellent and I’ve never had any security issues.

Cons

The price point for toast is higher than a lot of other POS. They do have the most customizable features which helps justify the cost.

I really enjoy using toast! It has great integration with other services & it's ease of use brings me peace of mind being able to trust my team on the software.

Pros

I love how user friendly toast is. They give options to utilize the service in ways that best benefit our business & how we personally operate.

Cons

I think there is a slight lag from when we get updates & when they actually take place. The amount of updates seems like a lot, however I do appreciate the helpful support team when I do have questions.

Worse working experience with this company I will advise all small businesses not to switch to toast I switched to toast a month ago I changed my banking account before starting with toast and provided all the required information to them ( all relevant emails from toast employees I have if someone wants to see) now it is third week and we didn’t get a single penny in our account from toast. We are using toast machine for our transactions from more than 3 weeks now and their employees are unable to solve our issue. We are small business restaurant our daily pre authorized payments are going through every day from our bank account and we are borrowing money everyday to keep our bank account in good standing. I got inspired by their facebook advertising but now I will request all the small business owners not to get inspired by that promises which they can’t fulfill. Toast is the easies POS to use from front end to back end. They are the most compatible POS company for restaurants that I've had the experience working with.

Cons

Toast is growing fast and does seem to make some changes before doing any user research to see how the changes will affect the users who interact with it most. I'm happy to see them grow, but don't lose the user friendliness we all know and love!

### "All function, little form"

Working with a product that was actually intended for restaurants and not as a one-size-fits-all for any retail application has been wonderful.

Pros

Toast POS works exactly how it's supposed to, and meets every functional need we've had.

Cons

The support has been great, and the learning tools are awesome, but I would rather have a product that is easier to understand. There have been times when I've had to contact support for things that should have been very simple and straightforward. I have enough to do with running a restaurant that devoting the necessary time to watch all the training videos is impossible. Trying to navigate the Payroll has been particularly difficult. If you could get a great design team to make the products easier to navigate, Toast would be unstoppable. Also an app to access the back-end or payroll and work as a mobile POS would be great.

We are happy, server dig it and we are looking at otherways to see it. SOme of the features like event management or online ordering are too pricey for a small store.

Pros

Working with toast on the set up was great and easy. As we have grown their support has been solid. Not like other POS we have used in the past.

Cons

Reporting is eh and needs work...mostly data is there, just not obvious how to get what you need and they have to data dump and email it. Also, menus for serving customers can get a little much drilling sometimes 2-3 levels deep to do an 8 oz brown ale.

Toast POS makes our service faster and more structured. It’s solid for daily operations even if a bit sensitive to internet quality. We use it for speed and tracking, it is a good tool for all our sales teams.

Cons

Sometimes it freezes when the connection is weak, and new staff needs some time to get used to the interface.

I've used it in a few different kitchens to manage the menu and track sales. It works well for FoH, and is the bane of Chefs and Cooks alike. When it works, it's a digital alternative to paper tickets. Most people I know still prefer paper.

Pros

On the fly menu changes were accessible, the UI was fairly intuitive.

Cons

We always dread seeing an update. The product's stability is inconsistent.

Pros

Toast is incredibly easy to use for the front of house, back of house, and the back office. The ease of reporting makes my life so much easier. Utilizing the handheld system helps my staff turn tables faster and make less mistakes.

Cons

We have a hard time integrating with InforHMS and sometimes the integration with Resy malfunctions. The system upgrades and there is no warning, which can be difficult to navigate at first.

### "Great Resource for Restaurant Management"

Overall happy with the product and will likely continue to be as they are forever growing, expanding, and adding in relevant new services frequently.

Pros

Toast has been a serious upgrade to our establishment. It is very user friendly and operates off a more "in the times" type of software than some other very outdated POS systems. All of their staff is friendly. The third party integrations are endless and offer something for all kinds of businesses. Online ordering and the ability to have an unofficial doordash partnership is very helpful and easy to use.

Cons

Support is not always the most efficient or informative. We often find where they simply cannot help us during odd inquiries or glitches, or we get multiple answers from different people. We also would like to see toast work on a table management and waitlist system that is actually functional for the restaurant. Currently, they offer third party table management integrations, but we have done trials with a few and none have quite what we are looking for.

Toast takes the guess work out of what's moving and what's not, who is producing and who isn't. Tips tell me if my server is worth keeping. I have been satisfied with them overall.

Pros

The analytics and reporting are fantastic. Getting Toast go's for your servers allowed me to cut back on server staff and the servers make more money because they can turn 3 times as many tables

Cons

Their set up map for delivery is garbage, if you plan on having delivery go with a different system. They have been telling me for 3 years they are going to upgrade and instead we have 3rd party integration with delivery services which are way over priced.

I have personally, been a Toast user for over 10 years and have seen the progression and realized what a great centralized system such as toast POS can do for the operation and control of our business, providing the nuclear us for various peripheral’s they give us insight into our total operation

Pros

Toast software is updated. Constantly, I find this refreshing and knowing that new features and securities are always top of mind from the engineers, we constantly submit future requests to help provide valuable input on the usefulness in the marketplace.

Cons

Often times, toast engineers, create features are pathways to solve issues, and Toast could do a better job at leading the operators know that these features exist, and the problem-solving is built-in

Additional CONS that didn't fit in the above box: \*Unable to offer discounts for particular items online. Let's say you want to promote a particular food item that week and want to offer 50% off that item ONLY...can't do it. You can discount the ENTIRE check or offer a BOGO, but no way to discount specific items. \*Can't use APPLE devices with Toast, only Android \*Unable to have a popup or a visible way to notify a customer of something when online ordering. For example, sorry, but we are out of this item or here's how we are doing curbside pickup, etc. There is only a teeny, tiny way to notify guests with a small banner atop your page that no one sees. (but Toast is happy to have their popup promoting their app on your restaurant page.) \*Toast App promotes all business, not just your personal restaurant so if you advise your guests to download it, they might be tempted by other restaurants they see when logging in. \*Toast's NEW online ordering has a complicated drop down menu that causes guests to struggle. If you have a drink menu, an alcohol menu, a breakfast menu, etc. then the guest has to find a small dropdown and toggle between the menus to complete her order. 1. \*excessive hold times to reach support, ie: more than one hour and no way to email support anymore (as was the previous system.) \*no way to reach support via email, even when Toast emails a restaurant, the restaurant can't reply because the email gets bounced back...instead you have to get off email, find a computer, log in and navigate to support, find the case and respond there. This is a big problem when managers are not on site at the restaurant but still managing a support issue. \*support cases opened on their online platform are not addressed and no one calls restaurant to resolve \*No way to email a receipt to a guest until AFTER they have paid and the transaction is over...a big problem for CATERING needing preapproval. \*Upsell feature with online ordering has Toast making strange pairings. For example, the restaurant guest orders a breakfast sandwich and Toast suggest an upsell of a bottle of salad dressing (instead of a breakfast side)! Only Toast can control the upsell so the restaurant can't promote the items it wants to promote. \*Handheld device does NOT support ApplePay. \*ApplePay on POS terminal is additional. Actually, a lot of things with Toast cost more money than what sales tells you up front. \*No way to comp a gift card online and email it to a guest from Toast Central online. \*No way to offer a promo code on your online gift card sales....like during the holidays when you want to offer gift cards for a certain percentage off the regular price.

Reason for choosing Toast POS

I thought Toast would be so much easier. In the beginning, I overlooked shortcomings because Toast had excellent customer service and they promised that when we submitted "feature requests" to improve Toast, that Toast would listen and slowly improve capabilities. We've seen very little of that. Additionally, their customer service has now tanked. Hold times are regularly over an hour. In the past, you could email support and now you can't. In fact, support emails you but you can NOT reply. It bounces back! They are still charging us for our closed location despite telling us they'd stop the billing until we could re-open after COVID. Toast changed our online ordering site and took away much functionality and now our guests complain that they can't order from us. Despite my repeated pleadings for someone to call me from Toast, no one ever calls. It is very disappointing!
