We are a volunteer-run charity working in suicide prevention, funded by grants, and we chose Odoo to consolidate our operations. The build itself is achievable and the tools are strong. What wore us down was the billing culture around it. Every interaction felt metered, every customisation felt like a risk, and goodwill was absent at exactly the moments a charity needs it. If you have a commercial budget and technical people in house, you may absorb this. If you are a small nonprofit expecting a partner, read the timesheet before you sign. Pros The core platform is genuinely capable. Studio let us build a full set of custom models, youth records, expenses, funders, budgets, without writing a line of code, which is rare for a system this deep. The external API is clean and well documented, so we could connect our own tools and front ends to it without fighting the platform. It is modular, so you only switch on what you need, and when it works it replaces a pile of spreadsheets and disconnected tools with one system. For a small organisation that needs a real database rather than another silo, the software does the job. Cons The commercial and support experience is the problem, not the software. Support was billed against our success pack in fifteen minute increments, including time spent on Odoo's own internal work. When Odoo moved our project to its US office, the only way to get support within the evening hours our volunteers actually work, we were billed four hours for the handover between their staff. Reviewing their own notes, watching their own videos, meeting their own colleagues. When we objected, we were pointed to an email that had warned us it would be chargeable. Earlier in the build they tried to reclassify standard Studio automation as custom code to justify a maintenance charge, which we disputed. You learn quickly that anything near the edges of the platform, including exposing your own custom apps to portal users, is either a potential invoice or a limitation nobody flagged at the start. Fancy being charged a premium, to populate yoru subscription to use what you paid for Our fee went from $567/yr to over $5000 per year So then we had to delete all the work we paid for Was an experience that cost thousands in dollars and 6 months in time, for no outcome. Its open-source flexibility simplified contact management and invoicing, despite slow customer support. Pros Modular architecture makes extending sales management and transaction management effortless. Contact management connects well, invoicing triggers cleanly, and value for money is strong. Cons Upgrading custom modules between major versions has a steep learning curve. Ease of use drops in complex accounting, customer support is slow, and invoicing rules take time to configure. The software itself is very good and has strong potential, but the consulting experience was disappointing. I expected the consultant to bring expertise, understand our business processes, and help us translate our needs into a practical Odoo setup. Instead, I often spent more time and energy trying to obtain clear answers than I saved by using the consulting service. After 25 hours, I did not feel that we had reached a sufficiently concrete or useful configuration for our company. For companies considering purchasing an Odoo consulting package, I would strongly recommend also evaluating experienced external Odoo consultants. The software is valuable, but in my case the official consulting service did not provide enough added value. Pros Odoo is a powerful and flexible software with many useful features. The platform itself has a lot of potential, and even the built-in AI is often very effective for standard questions and basic guidance. I also appreciate the fact that many business processes can be managed within one ecosystem. Cons My main disappointment was the consulting service. I purchased a 25-hour consulting package for about €1,450 after a 15% discount. Unfortunately, I felt that a significant part of those hours was not used for real consulting. In several cases, even for relatively standard Odoo questions, the assigned consultant had to ask internal colleagues for help, and all of that time was deducted from my package. I fully understand paying for the time needed to answer my questions, but I do not think I should also be paying for the consultant's own training time. I also found the approach too standardized. There was very little effort to understand our specific business model and propose tailored solutions. The answers often remained within the most basic standard configuration, without really exploring tools such as Odoo Studio or more suitable alternatives. Even the first hours of the package were partly spent on standard presentations that were not specifically adapted to our company. The finance department no longer complained to me about discrepancies between Purchase Orders due to the fact that the software automatically keeps track of everything centrally. Honestly I'm just glad that I can click approve things from my couch instead of having to drive into the warehouse on Saturdays. The customer support is also good. Pros The Odoo dashboard puts all of the financial module and the warehouse module information on one screen which is alright I suppose. When we moved to the cloud I had anticipated that the cloud-based database would crash a lot however it seems that it will run for most days without crashing. Going back and forth from a customer's profile to the real-time inventory (live) stock levels isn't a long time either. They do have a somewhat ok-looking screen. So good value for money. Cons Odoo essentially blocks you from changing the core coding so if your company has a unique or "weird" way of completing processes then you will need to completely change how your company completes those processes. The on-boarding experience was horrible. On Black Friday, when we were doing our first major use of the system during peak season, the cloud synchronization between the e-commerce frontend and the warehouse logistics literally ran a continuous spinning circle on its loading wheel for 10 minutes straight, and made us appear like complete idiots to the people who were calling in. Funcionalidades que para una empresa exportadora chilena son básicas (campos de facturación de exportación, manejo correcto de contabilidad en USD) resultaron ser limitaciones de Odoo Standard que nadie nos mencionó antes de comprar. Como parte del reclamo, solicitamos la conversión de nuestros créditos hacia Odoo.sh para al menos compensar el costo de la implementación fallida y la pérdida de tiempo que llevamos, pero nos dicen que no es viable, ya que tras evaluar el caso a detalle, dicen que las etapas previas de demostración y que las circunstancias actuales difieren de los requerimientos identificados en la evaluación inicial. Siendo que desde el primer contacto se planteó como desafío central la complejidad de manejar la contabilidad en dólares junto con el IVA y pagos en pesos. No es un requerimiento que haya surgido en el camino, estaba sobre la mesa desde antes del kick-off. En resumen: la implementación nos costó muchas horas de trabajo interno para detectar y corregir errores que debieron evitarse desde la venta, y cuando pedimos una solución razonable, no la obtuvimos. I used the free trial mainly to understand how the platform handles business processes, and I can see why companies choose it as an all-in-one system. Having sales, customer information, invoicing and other operations connected in the same platform is a major advantage. It also seems flexible enough to grow with a business instead of forcing you to replace the system later. At the same time, I think new users need to invest some time before the experience becomes comfortable. Pros What impressed me most during the free trial was how much Odoo brings together in one system. Sales management, contacts, invoicing and transaction-related workflows can all connect to each other instead of feeling like separate tools. I especially liked the idea of being able to start with the modules I need and expand later. Once I understood the basic structure, the workflow started to make much more sense and the overall feature set felt very capable. Cons The main issue for me was the learning curve. Odoo has so many modules, menus and configuration options that the first experience can feel more complicated than expected. Some simple tasks took me longer because I had to understand how Odoo structures the workflow first. Ele não é configurado para tributação brasileira, quem faz esse processo é uma empresa terceira que precisa pagar até para emissão de orçamentos. Já contratamos mais de 400 horas e ainda não conseguimos efetuar toda a implantação. Pros O que mais atraiu no Odoo foi a simplicidade e facilidade de uso. A gestão de do CRM e facilidade de comunicação com os clientes também é um ponto positivo. Cons O sistema cobra para fazer orçamentos e emissão de notas fiscais. A implantação é lenta, confusa, para efetuar implantação é demorado e precisa de varias correções e mesmo que o erro seja deles, eles cobram para refazer o próprio erro. Não existe canal de telefone e a lei brasileira exige que exista meio de comunicação via telefone. O diretor pouco se importa com os clientes e se voce perder o controle por conta de prejuízos gerados por eles, ele te manda um e-mail te ameaçando que irá suspender o uso do sistema. The bank feed allows me to know what is going to happen by the end of the month instead of being caught off guard. I can access this system with my cell phone while sitting at the dentist office waiting. As we continue to expand into various countries and subsequently multiple currency accounts, odoo can manage them all. Since we transitioned away from quickbooks, the audit trail is much cleaner and the auditors can simply go through their process. Pros The reports give you current, live numbers, IF (AND WHEN) you ever get around to putting in the actual data. We were forced to hire someone to repair the api, however once done it will transfer transactions from another platform which is acceptable. The csv imports for 1099s and customer additions are faster than I thought they would be. Cons When viewing things at the top level, I dislike seeing where an invoice belongs to within an entity since you cannot tell while running a report. Also, the tools used for creating your own custom reports are completely frustrating. No one should be in this situation waking up to see that the fully paid subscription account with database and pos completly deleted without prior notice and althoug im the admin of the odoo shop account. But what i didnt know that the odoo partner i signed with have scamed me and created my odoo shop under there company accouny which is a clear data ownership Violation. Pros Online pos system. Accounting and easy to navigate. All features are available in this software it only lacks a good customer service. Cons My Odoo database — which I paid for and which should have been created under my company’s ownership — was created and controlled entirely under ADG’s ( odoo authorised partner) internal account. Because of this, ADG was able to delete my database and remove my access without any authorization. This situation raises several extremely serious points: 1. Data Ownership Violation: Despite paying for a full-year Odoo subscription, my database was never created under my CompanyID. It was created under the partner’s internal account, which contradicts Odoo’s customer ownership policy. Odoo support didnt show the minimum responsibility regarding this big error and considered it as an inconvenience situation and the only thing they offered is to create a new account and told me to redo the wholework myself again. Since my contract with ADG is paused due to delay in project delivery several times. Malgré ses nombreuses fonctionnalités, la solution s’est révélée peu adaptée à une TPE. La migration depuis Airtable est très lourde et entièrement manuelle. La personnalisation via Studio reste limitée pour des besoins pourtant simples, notamment pour la relation client et les automatisations. Le module Rental n’est pas conçu pour la location d’hébergements ou la privatisation de lieux, ce qui impose des développements complémentaires. Odoo est un ERP puissant, pensé pour des PME disposant de ressources dédiées. Pour une petite structure, la complexité, le besoin de code et le manque de simplicité rendent l’outil difficile à exploiter. Le support et l’accompagnement n’ont pas été à la hauteur des attentes, malgré un engagement sur la durée. Cons their invoicing is very unclear: they suddenly more than doubled our monthly costs because a tiny part of our operation was in a more expensive country. If you have multiple businesses or different ventures, you can manage everything as the admin without it interfering with each business. It’s really flexible and lets you organize things exactly how you want. I like to think of it like making a sandwich. Maybe you want bread, maybe you want lettuce instead whatever works for you, it’s all there. That’s the beauty of Odoo: it adapts to your creative vision. On top of that, you can create your own apps, integrate your own tools, and truly make the platform work for you and or your clients. You really can’t go wrong with it. I personally use one account for everything I do, and as someone with experience building and selling businesses, managing warehouses, handling finance, and helping others scale their operations, I need a system that keeps me organized without feeling overwhelmed.
