My overall experience with ActivTrak has been very positive, especially considering the value it provides for the cost. The platform delivers reliable insights into user activity, productivity trends, and workload distribution, which has helped us make better operational decisions. While there are areas that could be enhanced, such as more robust visual recording options, the core functionality performs well and consistently meets our expectations. Pros

ActivTrak’s most valuable feature for our organization is its ability to accurately track active time per user. This capability provides clear visibility into how team members spend their time throughout the workday, allowing us to identify productive patterns, spot inefficiencies, and better understand workload distribution. The platform delivers this data in an intuitive, easy-to-read format that supports informed decision-making and continuous performance improvement. By having reliable insights into individual and team activity levels, we can improve scheduling, allocate resources more effectively, and ensure accountability across departments. Overall, the active-time tracking functionality enhances transparency and operational efficiency.

Cons

One limitation of ActivTrak is the snapshot feature, which can feel too restrictive for detailed monitoring needs. While snapshots provide general visibility, they do not always capture enough context to fully understand user activity, especially during critical tasks or potential security concerns. The absence of a true video-recording option further limits the ability to review continuous activity or reconstruct events accurately. Having only periodic images instead of a more comprehensive recording capability can make it difficult to analyze workflow interruptions, investigate issues, or validate productivity trends. Adding a video-based option would significantly enhance the platform’s monitoring effectiveness.

### "High License Fee Increases, Poor Customer Service & Cancellation Issues!"

Customer interactions with support and sales have been poor, almost robotic with canned responses on anything except when they're trying to get more money out of you with plan or feature upsells. The cancellation process is purposely designed to trap you in a yearly contract and make cancelling from the mandatory auto-renewal (no way to disable this) as difficult as possible jumping through hoops. The actual service has been disappointing with the amount of time it takes to maintain the product keeping agents working, classifying applications or websites, and sifting through the excessive amounts of data just to answer basic questions on worker activity.

Pros

The ability to detect "mouse clicker" activity monitoring cheating, category based alerts, and event based screenshots.

Cons

The rising licensing costs, along with the introduction of new features that are only available as paid add-ons rather than being included in existing plans, are frustrating. There is also an excessive amount of unnecessary data collected, seemingly just to create KPIs for 'performance' metrics, which feels like an attempt to justify pushing customers toward the higher-priced plan and added cost features. The service demands constant, high-touch maintenance, often requiring dedicated staff just to keep things running. The agent installations are generally unstable and frequently stop reporting. The cancellation process is particularly poor—clearly designed to be difficult, as you can't simply opt out of renewal or cancel through the same dashboard used for payments or upgrading your plan. While it's easy to increase your bill, reducing or canceling your service is made unnecessarily complicated.

It has been a good experience overall. Whenever I’ve had questions in the past and reached out for help, I received a quick response and clear answers. I really appreciate the fast response and support.

Pros

I like than I can break down the activity daily and per person. I really enjoy using this system because it makes tracking and reviewing data incredibly simple and organized. I like that I can break down activity by each person, which helps me clearly see individual performance and accountability. Being able to view the data per day is extremely helpful for daily monitoring, and the weekly breakdown allows me to easily identify trends and patterns over time. I also appreciate that it provides a lot of data, including both active and inactive activity, which gives a complete picture of what is happening. This flexibility saves time and makes managing data much more efficient.

Cons

Overall, the employee tracking system is useful and provides a lot of detailed data, but it can be a little hard to navigate at times. Some features are not as intuitive as they could be, and it can take extra time to find specific information or reports. Once you become familiar with the layout, it does offer valuable insights and tracking capabilities, but the learning curve can be frustrating at first. With improved navigation and a more user-friendly design, this system could be much more efficient and easier to use on a daily basis.

### "Auto-Renew Trap and Canned Responses"

When we used the product, it was decent. Also, the reports are good because in a snapshot, we can quickly see the productivity of the team

The dashboard shows each individual's productivity. This helped us quickly see across departments the work and focus of our employees

Cons

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE! All they seem to care about is locking customers into auto renewal and charging for another full year, whether you are using the product or not. In my case, the business division using ActivTrak no longer existed, the service was no longer needed, and instead of working toward a reasonable resolution, they kept repeating the same contract language and avoided directly answering my questions. What frustrated me most was not just the invoice, it was the canned responses. I asked for the signed order form, the renewal details, and clear answers to specific billing questions. Instead, I got the same recycled explanation about notice periods. If you do business with ActivTrak, watch your renewal date very carefully, because once they renew you, do not expect much flexibility or a real conversation. My experience was that billing enforcement mattered a lot more than customer goodwill.

It is useful for seeing when employees sign in, and out and what they are on during the day. I have been able to find when some employees were working from home and there were no activities or employees are on sites they should not be at work.

Pros

I am able to see what sites people are on, and how much productive time they have had. You can narrow down specific dates and times to look at for groups and individuals. I can get weekly comparison reports for productivity.

Cons

It will show the site someone is on the most and could be something running in the background. When I look at the actual sites they were on it does not match up in the individual items vs. the overall on the first screen.

It was a tug-of-war between high-level strategic clarity and low-level cultural friction. The software provides the "truth" through data, but it didn't easily allow a personalized and understanding approach.

Pros

I found the most value in ActivTrak's ability to act as a protector of your team’s well-being, rather than just being a clock-watcher.

Cons

I find the software’s logic frustratingly narrow. ActivTrak is notoriously bad at distinguishing between someone staring at a screen because they are deeply analyzing a creative problem and someone who has simply walked away to get coffee.

Overall it has been a great experience and ActiveTrak has proven to be a useful tool

Pros

ActivTrak has been a great tool for monitoring productivity across my team. The ability to set the parameters and also conduct on spot auditing has been great to the development of my team.

Cons

I wouldn't say it's what I like the least, but I wish we could have a way to save screen activites, at least snapshots to be reviewed at a later time.

ActivTrak makes it easy to see how our team is spending their time. It’s helpful for keeping track of productivity, especially since we manage a lot of moving parts, office rentals, conference room bookings, and customer support. The dashboard is clear, and the reports are useful for checking in without micromanaging.

Cons

Sometimes it marks useful work as “unproductive,” especially if we’re on certain websites or tools that don’t look like work to the system. Also, it can get a bit pricey as you add more team members.

There are so many versions of reports, it can be a bit overwhelming and confusing to hone in on the exact metrics you need to measure.

We started the partnership (well we thought it was a partnership) in 2020 when our entire workforce went remote for Covid. We intended to use for productivity coaching but it became too cumbersome to be of any real value. The system never seemed to work just like it should and customer service was awful or none existent. We made the decision to leave for several reasons and even with the issues in the platform and poor customer service, they insisted on holding to the year contract they lock you into. I requested a partial refund for the remaining time and they ran me in circles for 8 full weeks (probably hoping i'd just go away) before they finally got on a call with me, just to try to upsell me more and waste my time. They say they care about a partnership but they have the legal right so no dice. I understand we have a contract but we are always willing to work with our own customers in individual circumstances and I believe we had a strong case to get a partial refund. If you look, they do an exceptional job with their digital marketing to not allow any reviews on most platforms... only on places they can pay to put their fake reviews in and real customers can't comment. That is not the practice of an honest company to me and doesn't let the consumer do real research. There are other platforms out there who do the same thing, while their UI may not be as pretty, their service and functionality ore than make up for the visual shortcomings.

Pros

When it worked, could view live screens or screenshots to use for productivity coaching as well as catch behaviors like job searches early.

Cons

Customer service was atrocious. Agressive with you to get you to buy /renew but abandon you as soon as you pay. Product never worked like it should. Alerts constantly broke. System was agonizingly slow to the point it was almost unusable unless you wanted to pay a full time person to review. The data classification system was not smart - you would expect once you classify a URL as one thing it would remember it but instead had to spend hours each week re-classifying the same thing over and over just to have the data show up correct to be able to coach the team. If you want any of the features or reporting that woudl actually maybe be helpful to give you insights and save you time... expect to shell out more money for each one.

Reason for choosing ActivTrak

They sold us on how much better they were than the competitors. I regret it.

It's been an overall great experience, their support is amazing and fast at replying, the agent does what it advertises and it has helped us greatly as of late with all the remote work being done.

Pros

What we like the most is the fact that we can categorize activities as productive or unproductive, this helps us have a more accurate report when checkin out productivity and keeps us well informed of which users are accesing unproductive websites or applications, also the fact that we can customize the schedule in which the agent keeps track of activities since a lot of our employees are woking from home using their personal devices and they can use them withough worries during their free time.

Cons

The installation process can sometimes be difficult as some firewalls and antivirus softwares block the agent from recording any activities, this means that even if the agent is sucessfuly installed we still don't get any records from it on that particular computer, it can be easily solved by adding exceptions to the software but not everyone is comfortable doing so since some are using their personal devices.

### "A way to see what is going on to a point"

ActivTrak is good in some ways but needs very careful evaluation and non excessive implementation, we opted in the end to use other logging and to ensure the message was to employees we aren't sitting watching every move as doing so would alienate a highly already productive team.

Pros

ActivTrak is fairly hidden though can be found by developers/competent IT people who know what to look for and it gives a way to be able to see after a fair amount of customising and configuring. Some elements such as seeing what is being used are useful but also we did seem to be logging quite excessively information we didn't need to capture.

Cons

After spending a while customizing and adding what to track we did start to wonder if this too was taking more time than the benefits and it is also worth noting that ActivTrak doesn't take into account non computer based interactions so you might see a period of inactivity when someone is actually logged into a different system or on a different task then ActivTrak is blind to this interaction. We also noted that there is a risk people within your business think its a bit excessive and similar to forcing employees at home to keep a webcamera on all day.

Pros

This lets you spy on their screen and see what they see. You can block out website from loading. For example: employees during working hours can't load Netflix. You can also monitor when their computer goes to sleep and when they are inactive.

Cons

One of the employees uses a MacBook Pro. When his iOS updates sometimes the permission setting of ActiveTrak need resetting.

Productivity is always hard to measure, but this software makes it easy to see what programs or websites are consuming or distracting from our work goals. I don't like to use it as a spy tool. I prefer to use it to troubleshoot areas for improvement. Or use the screenshots to see when an error or crash occurs to see the events that lead up to the software fail. This is a GREAT troubleshooter option, see what the station saw. Love that it can be accessed from remote seamlessly.

Pros

The easy interface and how easy it is to code applications and website as productive or non-productive. It gives a GREAT picture of the productivity of the workstations. I like that it can block websites as well with one caveat (see cons). I will say this blocker is 100% effective, where websites blocked by the router can be accessed using an alternate method. The Screenshots are helpful, not as a spy tool, but in determining errors when one of our programs is having trouble, we can see the error screen the operator saw through the screenshots. Great troubleshooting. Screenshots also let me assist the operator when I am in a remote location, I can see what they are asking and assist quicker than actually remoting into the workstation for minor questions. EVERY INTERACTION WITH THIS PROVIDER HAS BEEN MORE THAN EXCELLENT, and they are eager to help and take suggestions and criticism to assist or improve their already great product. You are not alone after you download or purchase. Another good feature is on the workstation the program runs in the background and is completely invisible to workstation, it doesn't slow the system down, nor cause the workstation any troubles.

Cons

When you block a website, it is always blocked. I would like to release the block during non-business hours. For instance, if my employees want to check their emails, Facebook, I have no problem with them doing this before work, after work or during lunch. I did load my work hours into the system, but tech support said right now it an "always" block. I don't want to have to come in and turn the blocks on and off manually. Other than that, this is the best program I have found.
