Very positive experience with refined billing software. It is designed for Software as a Service and digital marketing and this is where is excels.

Pros

Very mature, high-quality billing software. It comes with a generous allowance before Chargebee actually start billing you so I haven't paid anything yet! Lots of integrations.

Cons

It has loads of potential. I'm a little disappointed that the WordPress plugin was abandoned, Chargebee settling on iframes instead.

Overall, it has been a good experience to enable global payments and subscriptions for our e-learning business.

Pros

Chargebee handles all payment transactions and subscriptions very well. Our users hardly see any issues with making payments for their desired plans, and we like the fact that we can customize our plans, pricing options, discounts, and so on.

Cons

The reporting dashboard could be much better. They've also added a few additional reports, which are behind an additional payment. The configuration could also use additional options, such as coupon codes or custom payment links.

The idea of it doing what we thought it would do for our subscription service management

Cons

Using Chargebee has never been completely positive, but cancelling Chargebee is an extremely unpleasant experience. When it was finally time to cancel our monthly subscription to Chargebee, we cancelled our subscription well in advance of the next renewal, and we were still RENEWED FOR ANOTHER MONTH AFTER CANCELLATION. We brought this to their attention and they REFUSE TO REFUND US. As a subscription box company, we're up-to-date on all of the industry standards, and they are NOT FOLLOWING LEGAL GUIDELINES FOR CANCELLATIONS. Be very aware that setting up Chargebee is also a huge ordeal, they promise that all functionalities will work, but often they are hidden behind paywalls and / or to use them, you need to exclusively use their full platform, which comes at yet a higher price.

My overall experience with Chargebee has been excellent. It has successfully transformed our billing from a manual, error-prone process into a fully automated revenue engine. The platform is incredibly robust—it handles everything from complex prorated billing to global tax compliance without breaking a sweat. While the initial configuration took some effort, the peace of mind knowing our 'quote-to-cash' process is automated is worth the investment. It’s a sophisticated tool that feels built for companies serious about scaling.

Pros

The automated dunning management and smart retries are life-savers. We used to lose significant revenue every month simply because of expired credit cards or temporary bank declines. Chargebee handles the follow-up emails and retry logic automatically, which has measurably reduced our involuntary churn without our team lifting a finger.

Cons

he pricing structure can be a bit frustrating as you scale. While the 'Starter' plan is great for small businesses, the jump to the next tier is significant. Additionally, the revenue-based overage fees feel like a 'success tax'—the more you grow, the more they take. I wish there were more mid-tier options for businesses that are growing but aren't quite ready for the full Enterprise cost.

Overall our experience has been fine. Customer support is helpful when needed but the platform is just a little difficult to integrate with our system.

Pros

I like that I can access it from my laptop or my phone when I am out of the office for the day. It is also easy to navigate customers and their subscriptions

It can sometimes be a little complicated when dealing with customers subscriptions and the ability to modify the start date

It hasn't been the most pleasant experience. Our company decided to move to Chargebee at the recommendation of an employee who didn't quite understand the financial side of the business. We are constantly editing subscriptions and it's quite burdensome. If you run a filter on a particular screen and click on a link, it erases the filter. While this software seems to be more efficient from a reporting perspective, it's much more burdensome for the employees doing the actual work. We've been using it for approximately four months and are constantly finding problems with it. We trained ourselves on how to use it before going live to ensure that it performed as expected. We're still not pleased with its performance.

Pros

I like the idea of automated dunning emails and automatic follow-ups for customers. But so far, they haven't worked correctly.

Cons

Editing a subscription is a lot more complicated than other software. I don't like that you cannot easily view a screen that shows paid and unpaid invoices. I don't like that invoices get paid and there are no notifications. I don't like that you cannot enter payment information for a customer. We have fought with customers who previously were on auto-pay to get their information entered into this software. I don't like that once a customer has entered payment details and turned on auto-pay, ALL invoices will get paid once they are created, even if the purchase is not part of the subscription. If a subscription is set for auto-pay and a customer decides to buy training, they should have the option to pay individually. The only way to do this would be to turn off auto-pay every time you run an individual invoice.

Unfortunately, that’s not what we’re experiencing. For weeks, our team has been raising serious issues: ❌ Inconsistent reporting and unreliable metrics ❌ Unclear documentation around subscription statuses ❌ Broken mobile checkout experiences Plus, customer support systematically delays responses and repeatedly defers issues, with promises of updates that never arrive. We opened the latest ticket \[sensitive content hidden\], and we’re still waiting for answers. Hope this message helps others avoid the same issues.

Fix the price up to a certain volume. Coupon management module. Nothing more, it was a mistake to adopt it.

This is really great for billing and subscription management, and it’s all done in app. And the self serve portal is extremely user-friendly.

Overall I wish the initial demo lasted longer before having to dive into the purchase, but I’m still glad I made it.

All in all, it wasn't a terrible experience, but the issues that we experienced (with some not completely on ChargeBee, but shared with Microsoft) didn't allow my experience to be great either. But what I can say is that once they iron out those integration issues with Partner Center, I don't foresee having any negative experiences going forward.

Pros

The best way I can summarize what I liked about ChargeBee comes down to with the amount of available features, still having a minimalistic aesthetic to it. Not a lot of unnecessary clutter that isn't useful, just all the stuff you need, and none of the stuff you don't.

Cons

Everything related to invoicing. Now, I will note that our issues could have just been tied to issues related to limitations with Microsoft Partner Center subscription portal integration and ChargeBee. That being said, we had constant issues with the way invoices detailed how our customers were being charged and what was being credited, leading to long conversations with my customers explaining what they were reading.

Pros

I'm able to handle my payment processing, recurring subscriptions, license validation, reports and more all from the same product.

Cons

Usually support is helpful but there have been a few times when the feature just isn't available and there was no timetable given as to when it could be added (or how I could make sure the development team received my request). Two examples- you can't hide the subscription amount when someone is signing up for a free trial and if you have a free trial assigned to a plan the user can't skip the free trial if they want to be charged immediately (you can help them with this on the backend, which adds friction).

Overall, Chargebee is a great billing solution and I would recommend it to anyone!

Pros

There are many things that I like about Chargebee, but the thing that I like most is the fact that it makes billing easy. No more worrying about whether or not I am being charged the right amount, or if I am being charged at all. Chargebee takes care of all of that for me, and all I have to do is sit back and relax.

Cons

I think that Chargebee is a good product but there are definitely some areas that could be improved. Sometimes payment gateway doesn't load and it show error which is bit frustating.

It has been useful to set up our automated subscription plans. Creating different plans, promos, and payment methods were quite easy.

Pros

Chargebee makes it very easy to set up automatic billing, subscription creation, and setting up promos for our customers. The interface is fairly straightforward to navigate and they connect with much of our tech stack, which helps streamline workflows.

Cons

Not much to not like. There are a lot of settings, such as reminders and notifications that you need to make sure you set up if you want to stay on top of your billing. Once they are set up, they are very helpful!

We are still using it, but more because the time and cost to change is very high than for other reasons - and I am not sure that forever is going to be the case. I wouldn't recommend using this product if you need anything beyond the basic subscription management capabilities. Support wasn't good either. In 6 months we had 3 account managers change and I am not even sure how to reach our account manager now. When coupled with the pricing they charge, I wouldn't recommend utilizing this product beyond its basic subscription management.

Pros

I love that it has multiple options and features. And the core subscription management works really well. It is great for companies that start from scratch and need quick 0-80 solution.

Cons

The issues start when you go deeper. Revenue story has lots of data reliability issues, slow refresh rates, information that changes in hindsight. The more you leverage the advanced capabilities the more disappointed you are. We had dashboards disappear, web hooks not triggering without any apparent reason and much more. We need to spend hours validating the data and double check three times before we can decide to rely on the output.

In the beginning was very nice, but the more I use the product, the less I like it. We are considering moving to a different provider even if this will require to re-implement all our payment process.

Pros

At the beginning, when we started using this software, the setup was quite easy and just following their online documentation we could set up everything in our project.

Cons

Things started to go wrong when we try to use a more advanced implementation using their API. Integration with Hubspot was a mess, but we manage to fix that. On the other hand, 3DS implementation is very poorly documented if you don't use their in-house components. The support team is one of the worst I've encountered, they give you contradictory explanations, they don't even properly read the information you provide and it's very difficult to get the level 2 support.

The application is Subscription enabled. So if the monthly billing amount is same then the subscription will create Invoices every month automatically without manual involvement.

Cons

Sometimes due to system error invoices get created and get paid, which is not in order. I cannot bill single customer from to supplier.

We have been using Chargebee for over 6 months now and the experience has been nothing but great. The setup and onboarding is amazingly simple. From a developer point of view, integration process has been clearly chalked out and documentation is crisp and to the point. The pricing plan itself is very encouraging. 50K dollars are processed without any cost.
