We've used Recurly to power our billing for over 5 years now and it's fully integrated into our systems and processes. We're big fans of the ease of use and bigger fans of the phenomenal support.

Pros

While the features and ease of use are great, I'm most impressed with their customer service and ability to answer each question my team or I have quickly and thoroughly.

Cons

No major cons I can think of. We're trying to integrate GoCardless and it's been a little clunky, but I don't think that's at the fault of Recurly.

### "A must for emerging subscription-based business model"

Recurly is packed with features. It's not the cheapest one in the market but it fulfills our need. There are some features we wish would be an add-on which will save us some dollars because we don't use it. The customer support is important to us and they are responsive and knowledgeable. There is a little learning curve when rolling this out to new hires.

Pros

Besides integrating well with our existing tools. We are fond of Recurly because we can accommodate a wider reach of customers beyond month-to-month plans. The subscriptions can be customized the way we like it (think annual plans, prepaid plans, every other month, every three month-type of billing.) The invoicing feature allows our sales team to close deals without asking for upfront credit card information. Once accounts have been set up, we can always provide a specific link so customers can pay by themselves reducing the amount of people seeing their cards thus building trust.

Cons

When processing a refund, it generates another invoice with a different invoice number. I think it would be better if the actual invoice will be updated to say "fully refunded/partially refunded" instead of creating another one. For security reasons, the software times out over a period of inactivity. When 2-step verification is enabled, it will always ask for it when you re-login...just a minor annoyance.

### "We Paid 40% More Than Expected Due to Hidden Terms"

While the product works and solved our billing infrastructure needs, the commercial side of the experience was disappointing. We trusted the pricing model we discussed during negotiations, but missed fine-print terms that had a major financial impact. As a result, we feel misled and overcharged. It left us with a working platform — but a broken relationship.

Pros

The platform is technically strong and reliable. It handles subscription billing well across multiple environments, and the interface is user-friendly. Features like automated dunning and card updater were helpful in reducing churn. The integration process with our stack was smooth, and their documentation is decent.

Cons

Critical pricing terms were not clearly communicated. We agreed to what we believed was a simple consumption-based model, but were later hit with large surprise overage invoices due to a hidden transaction limit and per-transaction fees. These fees were never discussed in the commercial proposal or calls — only buried in one follow-up email and the final legal contract. Our trust in Recurly was compromised, and the actual cost ended up more than 40% higher than we anticipated. The team pointed to contract wording rather than honoring the spirit of the agreement.

Unfortunately, some critical pricing terms were not transparently communicated, which affected the overall value we received.

Recurly has the best subscription billing service that I have worked with (I have used several). Their costs are fair and as mentioned previously, the freedom I have to set up everything the way I want to based on my needs is the reason why we will continue to use this service.

Pros

What I like the most about Recurly is the versatility, I have many options to send customized discounts, codes, create plans, edit renewals dates, process manual payments, send invoices, set up alerts, customize invoices and provide credits.

Cons

If I can say anything that I don't like is that sometimes a pop-up comes up for support and gets in the way of me working when I'm not looking to contact support. I understand the platform is just letting me know I can contact support for any issues and how but for experience users that know how to do this already, it can just be a little annoying.

Having used it almost every day in the past 3+ years I can say I am satisfied from both the core feature, subscription and invoicing management, the support, the fact that also when dealing with difficult to identify issues, like double charges or the 3-D Secure Authentication issues, they are striving to get it solved. No matter it is days, months or even years, they are on it until they get to a solution. So if there are still some hiccups here and there, we know we can count on Recurly, they'll get them sorted, sooner or later.

Pros

Efficient, reliable, highly customizable, good support, ah, I was supposed to say only one thing, but, there are really more than a few. Sorry Recurly, you're doing great!

Cons

The automatic logging out. Having to use it all day long, I know that I can relog in from 5 to 12 times per day. Ok security, but give me a break, please.

I miss some dashboards. Also, I'm not allowed to export the information that I can view on the screen, it's a bit frustrating.

Our sales reps and admins can use the software easily with very little training. When I offer consulting services to small businesses, I often recommend that they start billing services with Recurly - and I'm not even a Recurly affiliate! My clients do well with Recurly, which helps me do well.

It's easy to see payments and overdue accounts. Updating credit cards is easy to do, and it is easy for our reps and admins to use.

Recurly has taken care of our recurring billing for two years and counting. We have multiple businesses running on the platform and have multiple recurly accounts. There product goes above and beyond when it comes to feature flow and figuring out those \*next\* pains they can solve.

Pros

Dunning management Automatically update credit card expiration numbers Recurring rev reports Upgrade/downgrade/cancel API (hmmmm, so nice) Lots more that I'm not listing here...

Cons

If you have multiple websites, you need multiple accounts (for cancellation templates, etc), no discount on second account for the fixed monthly Can't overwrite customer ID #'s once the customer is in the system One time purchasing not so good

The ease of use and the easy to navigate user interface of Recurly is really great as not all platforms offers this kind of experience nor accessibility. I also love how I have never once experienced the website being down and it is always responsive, so helping customer's real time with this tool is just something I cannot get enough off.

Pros

The records being detailed with their date and time is also a huge plus as it helps me look, investigate or keep track of what I need to pull up for payments and billing concerns.

Cons

The only thing I really dislike about Recurly is that, I get logged out automatically after being idle for 5 mins.

Though Recurly is kind of expensive but I would say it’s worth it!! I would highly recommend this tool if you are planning to have a subscription based services.

Pros

It’s a user friendly tool, and it is very easy to navigate. Recurly has saved me many times especially in locating our member’s invoices and charges where I am no longer ask for help with our team leads beacuse the information provided are clear and concise.

Cons

There were times that we experienced delays when processing a refunds and it was not reflecting real time.

Recurly's dunning system is incredible and retrieves a lot of our revenue which could have been lost if not for the dunning system. Invoicing is made easy and general setup of pricing, coupons, etc are very easy to follow.

Pros

The software is very easy to use and you have access to numerous reports just with the click of a button. Their support is also excellent. I have never had an issue that couldn't be resolved in record time. The dunning feature is absolutely a brilliant tool.

Cons

It would be nice if you can refund transactions that are older than 6 months, but at this stage we are only able to refund transactions younger than 6 months.

Pros

Honestly, Recurly makes managing our subscriptions really easy. We use it every day. Everything from customers billing, taxes to analytics (churn, revenue, etc.).

Cons

This isn't really a con, but it takes a bit of time to set everything up, and it can be a bit technical if you're not experienced.. that's to be expected though for a platform like this.

Pros

I've been using Recurly for billing and invoicing, as well as subscription management. Billing new customers is a lot easier when I can easily manage my recurring bills. Furthermore, Recurly offers a number of features such as customer service, reporting, payments processing, and more. They also have excellent customer service.

The product is quite expensive and not affordable for startups

Pros

The program has completely transformed our billing department. The interface is pretty user friendly, but I would say the biggest pro is their support team. The chat box is always available and they answer your questions within seconds.

Cons

The learning curve of how exactly the program works and predesigned, was a little difficult to overcome. There are too many automatic emails sent out, so you really need to know how to navigate & turn them off (or know that they're even being sent out in the first place).

Pros

Once you learn the software, it's easy and quick to get things done. Seeing past history on an account is clear. Our organization is easily able to give many different departments access and enough privileges to fully own our required tasks. Still, our finance department can truly own billing and collections. If and when their have been issues with Recurly, their support has been thorough, and their communications have been clear and helpful.

Cons

You definitely need training from someone else who has used it to learn it properly. It didn't seem intuitive or something I could learn on my own. Also I'd say about 15% of the time, the site is down, or I at least have to log in three or four times. If manual collection is used for certain invoices, you lose the ability to truly audit what a customer is seeing.

Overall, I have had a positive experience with Recurly. I have used many billing platforms and this might be one of the easiest.

Pros

The ability to set recurring billing on automation is great and easy to set up. Plus their customers service team is awesome and always their when you need them. It's also very easy to add new members or terminate existing. You don't have to go through a million steps like other softwares.

Cons

Emails go to spam most of the time and the cost is kind of high.

Overall, Recurly is an easy to use subscription billing and management tool. From a support representative perspective, it allows me to service my customers and provide information without assistance from the Finance team for general billing inquiries or issues. I recommend this software for recurring subscription products/services.

Pros

Recurly is simple to use and configure. As a support representative, it is easy to review customer billing information, subscription(s), and coupons or discounts as well as make changes as needed. I like that there are hosted account and billing management pages that can be provided to allow a customer to update their information without having to login.

Cons

As a non-admin user, I am restricted to some of the data I need to support my customers such as the ability to view add-on products and reports detailing which products were sold and to whom. Perhaps this is merely a configuration my company has decided to enact versus default access based on user type.

Overall, Recurly is a very helpful and organizational software for billing and purchase concerns.

Pros

I particularly liked the transaction feature, where you can check the status and errors of the card on file or before it gets saved in the system. It gives you precise information about the error you are encountering and a suggested solution. Also, it has a lot of other features like the card update tab, activities, and the list of orders/invoices.

Cons

What I like least is the automatic log-out feature if you're idled for more than 15 minutes, the software's security system. It's not a big deal but it gets inconvenient sometimes.

In the end we left them. I reached out to their Customer Success manager to get a good deal on the Enterprise plan. They didn't pick up my signal that I was also looking at other systems. They didn't seem interested to keep us as a customer, so we left.

Pros

I liked that the system was solid in it's performance. It simply always worked and we never had complaints from customers on invoices and payments.

Cons

It took a long time before they made direct debit available.
