March 18, 2025 4.0 Xero has been very useful in our business and makes it easier to create professional invoices. Pros Xero makes it easy to complete bank reconciliations by automatically detecting matching payments. It is easy to set up suppliers, create and pay invoices, along with being able to track and manage all activity. Moving to Xero has revolutionised the finance management in our business. Pros There are so many incredible features from the short term cash summary, we import our budget into Xero and then monitor it on a monthly basis with the budget variance tool being incredible. We create all POs in Xero so that everyone in the business spending money ensures that finance are aware. Then we send out quotes for existing customers via Xero quoting too. Cons The reporting imo is limited. I would love to have more SAS focused reporting where I can look at my invoices and track what is MRR, what is expansion revenue and then create reports to track them - rather than having to use other software to do this. So I don't have much direct experience as for the last year I did not have much activity in my business. Cons I dont like that bank statements cannot be automatically be synched every month. It is good value for money for a small business. It does almost everything you need it to do. It is scalable and relatively easy to use. Pros Xero is a cost effective, professional level accounting solution for small business. It has an easy to use interface, offers plenty of integrations, and the cloud hosting is easily scalable. Banking integration is great. Cons Premium features can be costly. Customer support could be better. Reporting isn't as good as the competition. Even for non-finance people it's an intuitive platform to understand. Pros It just works as a platform, simple to integrate into almost any tool Cons The fact it links into so many platforms can make troubleshooting more cumbersome depending on your set up. You can end up checking a lot of different places to solve invoicing issues. It is a very flexible tool, especially for startups. You can set up a company in minutes if you know what you are doing. A nice tool overall, up to a mid sized company. Pros Easy to use, company set up is fast, can be used in many different countries, flexible, good for startups in their earliest days. Very flexible chart of accounts allows you to make any kind of setup you like. Cons Regionalization for some countries with complex VAT is not great (Portugal, Serbia). Pros Keep a record of expenses for the team. Ability to add varies categories so each expenses can be channel to the correct. Cons Not very easy to navigate. It becomes sticky enough where you don’t really think you can move it elsewhere. Pros It integrates with a lot of other software I have used like GoCardless and Hubspot. Makes my life much easier. I have worked in Xero for clients and having used similar products that feel as thought they’re based on Xero (including colourway and layout), Xero stands out. It feels like the original. Cons There isn’t much to dislike if you’re in the market for a finance platform that will work well for a micro to SME. Swipe integration, exportable data, easy reporting. It has most things you’ll need. There are only VERY minor interfaces frustrations, like not being able to set “on click” to open in new tab. You’re not penalized with extra costs for simply growing your team. Cons What really holds Xero back for me is its pricing structure and feature limitations at the lower tiers. The Early plan is so restricted (20 invoices, 5 bills per month) that it feels like more of a trial version than a viable option for a growing business.
