It is very good for small businesses to keep track of their quotes and easily convert those quotes into invoices to show a clear journey from quote to invoice to paid work completed. Pros You have the ability to create a quote, add your own notes and narrative, save templates, and convert quotes into invoices, all going directly to the customer and requesting them to pay using the method that makes sense for your small business. Cons Seemingly unable to set a budget limit for a project, attribute hours towards it, and to let you know once this has reached it's limit/not exceeded it. Review Source AD Andrew D. By year end, I may want to make many edits, but that won’t edit my transactions. Boo Pros Simple, easy to use. I like how everything is segmented throughout the software intuitively. I would love to see invoices and quotes segmented by product Cons If I edit my chart of accounts, it does not update my transactions. So I have to find and recode, but I am unable to do that if I use the auto tax. Pros It doesn't support phone number and email replies can take upto 48 hours. Cons It can only track finished goods and isn't suitable for tracking raw materials on work-in-progress. It's a handy way to code account transactions, and also see how my business is performing. Pros Super easy to track and stay on top of my business financials. Cons It can be hard to get help and support, and also to set up new reports. Cons It doesn’t do direct feed with all banks & bank account types, as a sole trader I have personal and business accounts I’d like to direct feed access to. Pros Easy basic setup for people new to requirements of accounting software and to learn basic accounting. Also easy to integrate with many web platforms. Cons Stock management and its basic layout aren't a feature im pleased with. Alternatives considered [Sage 50 Accounting](https://www.capterra.com/p/174753/Sage-50cloud/) Reason for choosing Xero Cost and ease of use to start with, however did switch to Sage for its stock management a year later. October 21, 2024 5.0 Overall Xero is easy to use and there is not many things that you can do to break it. Pros Everything you need for financials are at your fingertips. From Reporting to daily transactions to payroll. Cons There are a few client contacts that I have trouble finding. When Updates happen it changes the way things are used, this can be a little frustrating to pivot of processes. With assistance from my accountant and help videos, I am confident in the basic use of it. Pros It is great how easy it is to monitor the transactions of the business and make plans using that data. I can't help but feel with just a few updates, Xero could be great. Pros Xero is easy to use. Xero (the company) has put in the effort over the years to improve the overall use of the product (user interface, reporting). Cons While Xero has made significant product improvements, they haven't made the minor adjustments the user community has requested - specifically adding more custom text tracking fields. Xero comes with two, and most users find five or 10 would be beneficial. Also, Xero has not rolled out all of the updated pages on the web version. For example, the updated Accounts Payable pages were available months ago, while Accounts Receivable still shows the older pages. October 28, 2024 5.0 Overall, I wish I had changed to Xero much sooner as it saves me so much time and makes my job so much easier. The price is very affordable, it is very user friendly, and I highly recommend it. Pros After getting fed up with Quickbooks, I decided to try the Xero free trial. I love the simplicity, how it prompts me to reconcile each time I log in so month end goes so much smoother and quicker than with Quickbooks. The pricing is WAY better and I'm not getting nickel and dimed the way I was with Quickbooks. I would say it is much easier and more intuitive and makes my bookkeeping so much simpler. Cons It was a bit time consuming moving our data from Quickbooks to Xero. We paid to have the recommended service done, I think it was through Jetpack or something like that. They did a great job but there were of course some things that didn't cross over exactly right so going through and finding those issues was a little time consuming, but once that was settled I'm very happy I made the move. The payroll setup is quick, and fields are basic and easy. The interface is easy to navigate. Pros Really easy, intuitive software, that a non-accountant can use. And can sync to other software systems such as Project Management Software. Cons Not as cost competitive as some other similar software. Can have integration issues with other software systems. Love the ability to give my bookkeeper and accountants access. Pros It has an easy to use interface. It is really easy to reconcile. Adding employee information is simple. Cons The numbers of users triggering a different payment amount is not the best for a small business. It would be great to have more levels in between the current options. Pros It is simple to use and has all the core functionality that you need. Cons We are expanding globally, and Xero does not deal well with that. We have had to licence localised versions of Xero that we need to then manually consolidate. I am aware the Xero marketplace does offer some solutions, but there are also all in one solutions available where you deal with a single vendor. Review Source JM Jesse M. The bank reconciliation feature works well enough for our needs and saves a lot of time compared to our old system. We've also found the reporting helpful for quick insights into our cash flow. Cons Sometimes the mobile app can be a bit clunky when trying to input new transactions on the go. It's not a huge deal, but I wish it was a little more intuitive for quick entries.
