In my experience, it helps by bringing these tasks into a conversational AI workflow, allowing me to get financial insights and complete routine accounting activities more quickly. For example, when I needed to understand why our cash flow had become tighter over a particular period, instead of manually going through several reports and transactions, I could use JAX to analyze the relevant financial information, identify changes in income and expenses, and highlight the areas that were affecting cash flow. I could then use those insights to investigate specific invoices or expenses and take appropriate action. If you want accounting software that works, has great integrations, isn't bloated with a lot of things you don't need, and doesn't try to sell you something every time you open the software, try Xero. Pros Xero is excellent accounting software! In my bookkeeping practice, Xero is the software we recommend for new clients. It's easier for business owners to use than its competitors, but has the same full functionality. There is almost no downtime, the software just works as software should. I run my practice on Xero as well. Cons They've rolled out so many new features in the past year or so that almost anything we might have complained about has been addressed. The one thing we are still waiting on is the release of progress invoicing, but I understand that's on the roadmap. I no longer have to login and logout of multiple accounts fifty times per day. I’m glad it catches mistakes such as double paying a vendor prior to my boss yelling at me. It’s nice that I can work from home a couple days per week as it’s hosted in the cloud. Tracking our 50 Grants is much easier to manage then they were with our previous software. Pros I setup Xero by myself, which is miraculous, most of these kinds of systems fail on their first start. I've got my coffee running down my leg as I sit here trying to balance my laptop on my knee in the server room waiting for my vendor call. So, I will try to keep this short. Xero integrates with Salesforce and Concur fine. I was surprised it did not crash once we transitioned to using Dimension Structure over the old Account Number fields. Most of the time the AI Bill Coding reads the invoices correctly so I don’t have to type as much which is a small relief. Cons Everything has to be done on an entity-level as opposed to being able to access all information at the top-level. Finding anything takes way too long. System upgrades also take hours and lock-out our offshore team. However, the absolute worst thing about this system is that you cannot modify the Default Reporting Dates from Calendar Month to Fiscal Year. I run on a fiscal year basis. Every single time I pull reports, I have to manually override the dates to get the correct information. This wastes my time and makes me scream. Review Source PR Pupp R. I have tried other accounting software options over the years and this is my favourite. It’s not completely beginner-friendly but that’s only because it is such a comprehensive piece of software. If you take the time to learn how to use it properly and set it up to your specific requirements it’s great. Pros I like the integrations available with Xero, it is compatible with a number of other services and softwares we use. I also like the scope of capabilities Xero has. Cons It isn’t the easiest software to use if you aren’t already experienced in using accounting software. Even if you have some experience using other accounting software you’ll still likely need to do some basic training or self-learning in order to use this software to its potential. Faster payments, smoother transactions - hosts of plug-in software to make Xero as unique as your own business. Easy to teach to newbies - fantastic at handling high-level accounting. Pros The sheer beauty of the user experience - it has grown and changed but always maintained a fresh and vibrant look and feel - as easy as apple pie ;-) Cons The subscription cost for lower end users - they don't really do a 'minimal entry' platform that doesn't hurt your pocket if you're having a rough month. Like all platforms, they have to decide which features that users request will be implemented, and that left some users feeling ignored and out in the cold. It is simple and easily navigable and if there is something you don't know how to do it is often simple to find out how. Pros We have used Xero for several years to do our accounting. We moved over from Sage. What I like about Xero is it is simple. Everything is laid out sensibly and it is easy to navigate. There are access to many different pre-made reports as well as the ability to customise and favourite as well. We have this software linked to our Cybake account and send over invoices from there daily. We also raise invoices within Xero itself. We also use it for bills. I use this everyday and have never encountered an issue. When there is something I don't know how to do i have never needed to contact customer support. I just search online to find the answer quickly. Cons Some of the pre-made reports have very similar names. Which can be confusing at first until you learn them but that is similar to other software we use or have used in the past. Just means sometimes I click a few different ones before I land on the one I want. Not a big issue. It's very user friendly and perfect for small businesses. The limitation is for bigger businesses that have multiple subsidiaries, however for small businesses wanting to manage everyday accounting, it's the perfect choice. Pros It's very user friendly. The bank feeds, journals, AP and AR function are all very straightforward and the layout is nice to use. Cons Importing the chart of accounts can get a bit complicated, but that's expected. For smaller entities with few transactions it can be a challenge to justify the fees, but having cloud based software is very handy where we have multiple infrequent users vs manging installed software. Pros With Xero we can automate recurring quarterly billing, speeding up the process vs manual invoicing. For audited entities it is very easy to give read only access to Xero to the audit team, which is a significant time saver. It is very easy to link Barclays bank accounts - transactions feed into Xero regularly making it easy to reconcile transactions without the manual process of logging into the bank portal. Cons No in house consolidation between companies. Slight concerns over pricing prices / frequent price increases, for most entities Xero is reasonable value for money, but we have an entity we are not migrating to Xero as it has a USD bank account which would require a premium (more expensive) Xero package. Xero's budgeting / forecasting functions doesn't work correctly for us (changes not saved and budgets not populating correctly) and so we still maintain budgets on spreadsheets. The product JUST WORKS and is ideal for UK usage. It has all the correct VAT accounts by default and almost every British accountant has used it so they find it extremely easy to work with for producing business accounts and filing VAT returns. Pros How it just works without any training. I am not an accountant whatsoever, I'm just a software developer actually but it was SO EASY to get familiar with Xero. My accountants were impressed at how perfect my books were on it. They were able to produce my UK VAT returns within minutes. Cons The UI is very outdated. It looks pretty bad. I use a Chrome extension to make it dark for night time usage. It does feel clunky sometimes going back between pages and seeing old information. Other business had advised me it was eady to use howrver it has took me so much more time thsn a basic spreadsheet and i just cant get away with it . I have had nunerous times onto customer support screen sharing and an onboarding session and still do not like this Pros There is a lot of customer support available however its not instant and when your completing your account's you need an immediatre response not a call back Cons Its complicated to use and no-one explained you need multiple apps to upload your receipts and bills and pages of uploads banking invoices . It has many different functions and capabilities which speed up reconciling and customisable reports. It is able to integrate with other software and banks. It offers great value for money for all the features it has. Cons Xero can slow down when you have a lot of transactions, but into the hundreds of thousands and it is not too slow that it is unusable, and this is a minor element, and all the pros outweigh this small con. I always messed up the formulas on those and they were a pain to keep up with. Every now and again, the expense tracker double charges me after syncing with my bank and I have to go in and delete the duplicate entry manually so I don't confuse myself. Some of the features work better than I would have anticipated for helping me keep all of my business in one place. Pros The phone app is decent for logging my hours when I am waiting for my coffee (which is also nice). Billing customers has been less of a disaster than I had anticipated. I was also pleased that the sync function worked. The calendar helps me track who owes me money and I am just glad I can finally see the dates. I was not expecting the program to be as easy to use as it was for something that deals with numbers. Cons I do dislike how often I get logged out of Xero once I close the tab. Then I have to sit through another annoying OTP code to get back into my account. The reporting features are very basic and there is no ability to really customize them to show more detailed financial information.
