Controller Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Great software with many capabilities" March 6, 2026 5.0 When we first began with Paychex Flex the program needed tweaking to suit the construction industry, multiple job locations which meant multiple taxing jurisdictions and sometimes as many as 4 local taxes to be withheld for one job location. Once these were worked through it worked very well. Pros The ease of use, functionality of software, the software being able to handle all tax withholding of various local jurisdictions. Cons It wasn't always easy to connect with the account assigned representative, however the next available staff was always very helpful and knowledgeable. The customer service is great and the communication with service team is always very prompt. Pros It was very easy to use and navigate the website. Onboarding was simple and running payroll was smooth. Cons Paychex unfortunately could not keep up with my growing business, and the tax filing was not up to the level that needed for the growth we are having. The system is easy to refer back to and has made it simple to track and manage employee time off and PTO. Pros I am really enjoying the time tracking feature. Being able to transfer employee hours to the dashboard for payroll calculations with a single click has been very helpful Cons There is no assigned account representative for our company. Cons The thing I liked least was the customer service. When issues arise, it can take days to get a response, and you often have to deal with multiple people for the same issue instead of working with just one representative. Pros The ease of use and the mobile app. Sometimes I'm on the go i cover several sites the fact that i can just use my phone to clock in and out as well as put in any request i have in the app directly is so convienent. Cons I don't like that it takes you directly to the new version and not the original 1st. I have not had time to familiarize myself with all the new features yet from the ones i have used this is very easy to use. Customer service for all product lines is non-existent or offensive. Major mistakes with no consequences. Many tax failures that we ended up paying penalties for. Continued to bill us after contracts were terminated and would not respond to inquiries. They are shady with billing. Pros One Employee Login for 401k and Payroll. Otherwise, there are no other redeeming qualities for Paychex. Cons The customer service in all departments. The failure to provide services as contract (tax-pay service, payroll and 401k Plan). Mistakes, very big ones, by the 401k team. Horrible service by everyone involved over several years. Keep sending us new products to sign up for, but their current products do not work. And they will lock your account and will not provide records for you until it’s paid. Stay away from Paychex. Pros The platform was designed great, they software is able to walk your through step by step without having much experience or knowledge. Cons The system is hard to manage to obtain reports and record or duplicate pay stubs or W2s. The platform is difficult to recover duplicate documents for employees. I have been with them for 20+ years. I had the same representative for 13 years then after that I got a new rep every 3 months. Finally after complaining I finally got a rep again that has been with me for 2.5 years. But the billing aspect is really rough. Pros East of Use, Online portal is simple to use. System is always running and takes me only minutes to enter in payroll. Cons The billing is unclear. Invoices outside of the normal payroll deduction i have to hunt for to find out what i am getting billed for. Fees go up every year without explanation or notification. I have to re-negotiate every year and then trying to get credits takes hours of emails and work. Uploading and signing documents is not easy to navigate. Pros I use the admin section. I personally like that I am able to approve my teams hours and that I can break it down by pay week or pay period. Cons When there are punch in/out errors from an employee, there's no option to print the individual error or the full time week itself which is needed for my business because we need signatures approving the adjustment from the error. August 4, 2025 1.0 Sorry to be so blunt, but it was a complete nightmare. I have worked with two companies in a row, where I cam in and they were using Paychex. Both places begged me to find a better payroll provider that met their needs. Each time I found a new payroll provider that could supply the employer with what fit their needs (and yes it was two different payroll providers). Pros Only positive is that it is cheaper than other payroll companies and very easy to use. It is vey hard to find anything very positive with all my experience with Paychex. Cons Customer service is not very pleasant to deal with when I had to call and place complaints for mistakes on Paychex's part. I would not trust them with proper tax filings, they have very basic reports and you have to call for any report that may be a regular report for you but is not one of their very basic reports. Cons The clocks we are using have been problematic, specifically the camera. The sensitivity has caused many enrollment issues. The platform was straight forward and I never had an issue processing payroll. They also offered pretty comprehensive training. Cons It was very difficult to ever get a response for any payroll or HR related questions. No one would answer my call and it took days to get a response. It was also a very expensive product to use and had sub-par health insurance.
