Pros Okta is incredibly versatile and checks all the boxes for our Identity and Access management, security and compliance needs. Product updates are frequent and there are so many different ways you can streamline onboarding, offboarding and general management. Cons Some of the reporting capabilities and logging were behind but they are catching up on this now. Pros Okta has the most integration support, and a strong engine for building a closed loop access control story. From device trust to MFA login, from HRIS provisoning to app provisoning. It lets you build a complete access control story for your users/customers. Cons Customer support when things go wrong with integrations. Plenty of finger pointing without much effort to dig in. The authentication features allow us to protect our network and access to programs. Users have been able to easily adapt to single sign on. Pros Its easy for non-tech employees to setup and start using to access company sites. The administrator console allows our engineers to manage users okta settings and access. They have a great portal and the support and sales team have been great to work with. Cons Okta has had times where it is down and users are not able to sign in. This has affected us during business hours and have a bit of an annoyance. SDR Computer Software Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Safe, Organized and Extensive" June 2, 2021 5.0 Excellent, you might end up needing a small team to manage all the permissions and access especially with compatible software but overall it's quite useful, and when and if the time comes where you need to lock someone out it makes it very simple. Pros Love this software it covers a lot of ground usually use it to manage my employee's access. Since you set up agreements and policies it's easy to then allow certain permissions and deny them if ever there be the need. Implementing it takes time I'll be honest be once all that is done when scaling a company it's a must-have tool. Cons I dislike the slow implementation, the additional information input, and the several access keys needed to even set up a process. One wrong letter here and there and you can lose an entire workday solving a small team's problem. And I like its multi-factor authentication feature which gives the applications I used more security and make sure no one can log in to my users. I ALWAYS get Okta if the org can afford it. There is really no "competition" that comes close to delivering a product as polished and easy to use as Okta. Pros Okta does what Okta says it does, and delivers. Okta doesn't try to be like other competitors (if you can call them that in the space) and does IAM, SSO and Security. It doesn't do 15 things poorly, it does what it does better than anyone else on the market. Okta's support is also insanely good. I've had Okta support trouble shoot an application issue and figure it out before the actual application support even scheduled a call with me. If you want fast a great support, then you really need Okta. Cons For smaller organizations the price is higher than others that "offer more". I say offer more, because in reality you get subpar products bundled together that all "kind of" work. Really if your org can afford it, you'll have a top notch product with Okta that is bar none. The adoption rate for our users was very high compared to other projects we've implemented. The dashboard is easy to use. The number of applications that are pre-built and available for use with SAML is impressive. The instructions for setting up the majority of new apps with SAML are amazing. And the ability to provision users to new apps from one place is a game changer. Pros It was nice to be able to give our users a single dashboard, with a single username and password, and a single method of authentication to give them access to all of our apps. It's also a single place to provision users for multiple applications. Cons The lifecycle management features and provisioning are really robust, but sometimes they can be challenging to set up. Occasionally there are features in automating these processes that seem logical but aren't available. Review Source QL Quang L. For those Apps that I cannot access, I'll just wait until I come back to the office to use them, or bring my work laptop home. Okta has made working remotely more convenient. Pros Lets you access Apps without directly using VPN. This is useful for working remotely since you can use your personal computer to access the Apps instead of bringing your work computer home to access the Apps. All you need is username and password, and second authentication (if set up) to log into Okta to access your Apps. Cons There are still certain Apps that need direct VPN in order to access remotely. For these Apps, you still need to bring home your work computer to connect directly to VPN to access them. If this limitation can be overcome, then Okta would be fantastic for remote work; you no longer need to bring your work computer home. Review Source RC Ryan C. When we first deployed Okta workflows, we knew that their product and engineering teams consulted with Corporate IT teams to build Workflows. So far, I have not seen them slowdown on innovation and iterating on their product(s) which is good for a customer like me. Pros \- Ease of use even for junior IT admins- Ease of deployment- Okta Workflows extends your ability to automate user provisioning outside of regular SCIM options- Identity governance (IGA) is a game change in the IGA space especially if you're an existing Okta user. Workflows that can be built in Slack/Teams makes it much easier for your IT and Security teams- Setting up a new application that's part of their catalog takes minutes Cons Nothing of significance as they continue to innovate and release new features. I will admit that I was skeptical when IT announced the use of a new software, but I am pleasantly surprised and a little impressed by the ease of use and the usefulness of the product. Pros The product is seamless with your processes. I log in to OKTA once in the morning and I can move from software to software or website without stopping to remember a password, or waste time resetting a forgotten password. I forget how manual those processes are until I have to wait for a co-worker to log in to a software. I have converted my team and they have started asking me more questions about other things because I am so "expert" in OKTA. I love it. Cons Right after implementation I had to wait for IT to add some "tiles" for the software I wanted to use. Not long after though I realized I could add the URL and the password to the favorites and use the web version of the software while waiting for IT. Okta gives us a centralized place to manage those passwords, automates the integration of Active Directory authorization and authentication, and it also helps employees discover what services are available to us. Pros Have you ever heard someone with this "great" idea? "I'm going to make a webpage that has all your links. When you click them, it'll authenticate for you". It sounds great, but in reality it's extremely hard to do. Securely storing passwords, integration with enterprise systems, centralized management of the lists of links, etc. And, if you do one thing wrong, you can compromise the security of literally millions of logins. Okta seems to have conquered the problem. It's central management is wonderful. New employees login for the first time and immediately have dozens of applications available to them. New applications are all managed through our Active Directory groups. It has a great chrome extension that gives you access to your links from your toolbar. The smartphone app, Okta Verify, is fast and works well. Cons At work, I use 3 servers within Okta. One for our "corporate" servers, one for "production" and one for our parent company. The chrome extension only shows the links from the most recently accessed. So, I end up having to use the web pages, even with the extension. Also, having multiple Okta servers doesn't work well with LastPass and other password managers. They see all my servers as the same host. But, I have different passwords.
