“What makes this particularly concerning is that these claims were marked as successfully sent within the system, creating the impression they had been properly transmitted when they had not. Because the issue was not identified in time, my ability to resolve it within the required timeframe was limited. When the issue was finally identified, the responsibility for correcting it was placed entirely on me as the provider.“

### "TherapyNotes keeps everything in one easy place!"

February 3, 2025

4.0

Wonderful product. Made my job much eaiser. Just a little more pricey than some of the other products that are the same as this.

Pros

Everything is in one easy spot. I can schedule an appointment, do telehealth, take notes, and bill all in the same platform. You don't really need anything else when using TherapyNotes, LLC. It keeps track of everything for you. Making the work load so much easier.

Cons

The price is very high. Custumer support was also hard to reach the first time I tried to contact them.

### "Recognizing an exceptional employee"

November 7, 2025

5.0

Pros

I want to recognize \[sensitive content hidden\], a Customer Success Representative, for going above and beyond to fix what I thought was an unfixable problem. I spent hours going back and forth between TherapyNotes and Medicaid, and was completely lost on why I wasn't being reimbursed by this payer. \[sensitive content hidden\] took extra time away from her already busy desk to troubleshoot with me and offer solutions. Not only did she demonstrate excellent customer service skills, a kind/patient demeanor, and empathetic listening, but she also made sure a plan was in place before ending the call. Her customer service alone is reason enough for me to continue my TherapyNotes subscription. She is obviously an excellent employee and I hope this organization will recognize her and offer an incentive for her exceptional service. Thanks!

Cons

Increasing monthly price every year. Therapists that renew annually should be offered a financial incentive to renew their subscription.

### "Therapy notes"

November 25, 2025

3.0

It's fair, it is a lot better than some systems I have used in the past. They explain pretty well each service that's offered.

Pros

Easy to understand, learning and operating the schedule is simple. Having access to the billing part really helped.

Cons

All of the updates that makes it freeze. It doesn't allow you to add a new intake appointment for EAP services.

### "Therapy Notes gets the job done"

December 31, 2025

4.0

It was not great, but it was a good experience. It worked for what was needed in the group practice, but I switched to a different option when I branched into my own private practice.

Pros

The ease of scheduling clients and being able to go from one note to the other with the click of a button was very helpful.

Cons

It did not have the customizable features - color coordination, various billing rates for different individuals, submitting paperwork online. And I don't think it had an online portal for scheduling/cancelling appointments.

### "Great customer service and ease of use"

July 10, 2025

5.0

I have been very happy with the cost effective comprehensive record system offered. The notes work for my practice and the reminders and to-do list are helpful. The client portal is useful (I don't use all features such as scheduling so don't know about that area). I do my own billing and it is extremely simple through Therapy Notes.

Pros

TherapyNotes is easy to use as a solo practitioner in private practice. It is affordable and the features offered are extensive for the price. The customer service is top notch - always available with short waits, real people, friendly, helpful, and always follow up when needed.

Cons

I have not been dissatisfied with any of the product for my needs. Any small issues have been quickly resolved and most were user error on my part.

### "Pros/Cons TherapyNotes for Growing Practice"

February 19, 2025

3.0

TherapyNotes started out as a well-functioning and organized software but did not meet our needs as our practice continued to grow.

Pros

The updated interface was visually appealing and made it easy to navigate. The organization of the system was helpful in maintaining patient records.

Cons

We often had to customize our own forms and documentation because the software was created with Mental Health therapy in mind and our company provide Speech Therapy. When we added another discipline (Occupational Therapy) to our practice, the billing became very disorganized. It was difficult to keep accounting records of each discipline clear and separate.

Switched from

### "Great for most therapists, not customizable enough for me"

October 23, 2024

4.0

I first used therapy notes as a staff clinician at a group practice. When I opened my own therapy practice, I started with Therapy Notes since I was familiar with the platform and generally liked them. I found the support team very helpful in getting me setup. TherapyNotes was easy for both me and my clients to use which was a plus. The biggest reason I ultimately chose a different platform was because I wanted more freedom and flexibility with my documentation such as intake paperwork and notes. The templates in TherapyNotes offered minimal customization and that was ultimately a dealbreaker for me.

Pros

Very user friendly on both the clinician and client end. Affordable, especially for a smaller practice. Support team was great! Very responsive and helpful.

Cons

I wanted forms that were more customizable. This was the biggest reason that I changed platforms. I appreciated that the standard forms included necessary information, but they were not customizable enough for my specific niche/client population.

### "The best case notes are created with TherapyNotes"

October 5, 2024

5.0

Writing case notes was something that used to take a long time and required me to create a whole new note every time. Thanks to TherapyNotes I can create and reuse a template to save time and make notes more organized and easy to read. I love the fact that the notes are all stored in one location that I can quickly access regardless of whether I’m on my desktop computer at home or through my smartphone when I’m out in the community. The software also makes it easy to filter through in order to find specific notes which is very convenient.

Pros

It makes writing case notes a breeze for mental health practitioners. It allows me to store all my case notes in one convenient place. This makes it really easy to access them whenever I need to and it also allows me to quickly filter through them to find any specific note I need to access.

Cons

The price is quite steep for solo practitioners.

### "Regretting Choosing Therapy Notes"

August 28, 2024

5.0

I have been happy with the salesman and I think that he has tried to assist me the best he can but is confined by powers higher than he. I get the need to raise the prices but to go back on the original deal, I am sorry that I have chosen this software.

Pros

The salesman was very knowledgeable and I liked that it was only for mental health. There are many features such as the telehealth, credit card processing and the client portal that was very attractive.

Cons

They sold me on Therapy Notes with one price, then they back tracked on some pricing for supervisors. I complained and then they honored the original sale. Then before I had it for 30 days, they raised all the prices and went back on the original deal of not charging for supervisors. I have complained and they are sorry for my frustration but it remains the same - they sold me pricing on the software and then changed it all within 30 days. I am not happy.

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

This one looked to have be the best product for the price, but now they have changed the price.

### "Longtime customer of TN - almost 10 years"

January 16, 2024

5.0

Love love love!!! My experience has been fantastic on all areas of running a single private practice and growing into a large group private practice that accepts most major insurance carriers. Highly recommended.

Pros

I love the intuitive structure of TN and the prompts that make everything easy to set up. TherapyNotes support desk is the absolute best I have ever encountered in any capacity or task. TN makes it easy to expand your practice and grow in ways that need business support without taking away from clinical time. I love the ability to give some transparency to the therapist that chose to work in my group. TN really makes running a large group practice possible without breaking the bank or losing clinical time (or my mind).

Cons

That every issue I have to call support desk for is a USER ERROR!!!! One thought I had was that other therapists in my group practice can see each others revenue report. I love I can bring this up to TN and they add it to the list of things they work on - TN has made updates that I have requested in the past and it's so lovely.

### "Excellent system for therapists"

May 24, 2023

5.0

Excellent experience with Therapy Notes. I highly recommend it.

Pros

I'm not tech savvy and neither are many of my clients. Therapy Notes is very user friendly on both ends and I hear positive reviews from my clients. I also appreciate that the intake forms and progress notes are efficient and can be poulated with past notes. The customer service is excellent. The wait time is minimal, the team member is always helpful and professional, and so far every question that I've had has been answered quickly. I don't accept insurance but issuing a superbill only takes a few clicks. I haven't tried any other programs but I recommend Therapy Notes all the time.

Cons

I wish that Therapy Notes had an app for myself and my clients. A number of my clients use their phones for our sessions and having an app would make it easier on their end and it would be easier for me when I'm out of my office.

### "TherapyNotes Review"

July 9, 2025

3.0

Overall not a bad application and a great way to streamline all the different needs with appointments. I think there is space for improvement but for the basic needs everything is there.

Pros

Therapynotes was great for our team because it provided functions like appointment scheduling and notes for appointments. The program was easy to navigate as well. It also has the ability to do insurance claims and overview of billing.

Cons

There are areas of the application that could be improved. We did find that some features could not be customized for specialized documenation. The pricing for this is affordable but to have other features you have to pay the upcharge which was inconvienent. The mobile app is good however in order to see the full overview you still have to use the website so the app is a bit useless.

### "Simply Incredible Service"

July 18, 2024

5.0

In the past six months, being new to the medical industry, I have contacted Therapy Notes six times. EVERY SINGLE TIME the customer service agent walked me through whatever process I was inquiring about. They followed up with an email detailing our interaction, with the same instructions written out. NEVER did I have to get passed to a different agent to get help. ALWAYS I have gotten the help I have needed... Truly amazing in this day and age. I actually am wowed by the services that Therapy Notes offers. Whomever is doing their company training is STELLAR because in my half century of work experience, I have not received CONSISTENTLY perfect service. (And I very rarely use the word PERFECT! ;) Also, when there is an issue with the TherapyNotes program or technology, you are notified immediately as soon as you open the program. As well, Therapy Notes executives listen to their users, actually inviting suggestions, and then working to implement solutions quickly. On top of all that, they offer a Facebook group for users to chat with each other to gain ideas and expertise, with this group being monitored by TherapyNotes personnel, who do sometimes weigh-in on commentary for additional help. I cannot say enough about such an excellent program, resource, company!!! Kudos for all you do to help all of us in the mental health industry.

Pros

24 hour customer service that is second to none!!

Cons

Lost one feature that they are working to bring back - Insurance Eligibility button.

### "TherapyNotes, LLC Software Pros and Setbacks"

July 25, 2024

5.0

Pros

TherapyNotes, LLC offers significant ease of use; the entire billing process from submission to payment is handled with ease. It also has great customer service, which is available by phone.

Cons

The treatment plan templates can be expanded as it is limited. Also, I would appreciate various fillable forms so clients can complete it through the system. Also, a flat rate billing fee opposed to a per submission fee would be beneficial.

Cons

Absolute garbage! 2 days the eRx doesn't work. Waiting in a queue will easily take 45-60 mins. Website has been glitching for months. No compensation or sincere apologies for wasting our time. It used to be good when it started now they just seem greedy for cash and up charge for everything with no customer service. We are moving to another platform. SO disappointed. ### "The Best Customer Support since Chewy"

May 24, 2023

5.0

Pros

There is a whole lot to love about TherapyNotes, but I would say the best is the customer support. It is obvious they take client care seriously. I am able to reach a live person whenever I have tried and all of my emails are answered within a few hours to the next day.

Cons

Here is what I would like improved:1. Allow for recording of teletherapy sessions. This is vital for organizations with interns under supervision and individual practitioners attempting to gain certification in specialty areas.2. Make a more precise window for notifying patients of upcoming scheduled sessions. If the agency charges for appointments canceled within 24 hours, notification should come 25 hours before the scheduled appointment.3. Provide better training for using the Cardpointe services (is a wonky, non-intuitive portal, imho).

### "A great product! "

May 10, 2023

5.0

Incredibly positive. The customer service is hands down the best out there.

Pros

Therapy notes is easy to use and integrates billing, scheduling, record keeping. If you are billing insurance in any capacity this is the software for you and your practice.

Cons

Previously when I left one practice to begin a new one I was unable to easily transfer my records to a different practice code. I'm also unable to easily remove past billing on people's billing history that I wasn't yet using therapy notes for billing but was still using you guys for notes.

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

It offered more robust insurance billing and I was familiar with it from the previous practice I worked at.

### "TherapyNotes is strong overall but has numerous problems it hasn't addressed since its inception"

March 7, 2021

3.0

I wish I had started with a different program. I am not satisfied. I am not all that computer literate and just want something that gets the job done, and I'm too entrenched (and lazy?) to go to something else like SimplePractice. One more complaint: I have been a psychologist for over 25 years. I don't need the condescending ways that TherapyNotes literally PREVENTS YOU from, rather than cautions you about, doing certain notes out of order. Cautioning is a superb idea. We all get sloppy. Preventing is something altogether different. If I got a lecture (which I did) from someone who received their clinical psych PhD from my alma mater,UCLA, I might not be offended by the condescending tone I received when the woman informed me about the "golden thread" for conceptualizing clients. There was no "we chose to...." They are RIGHT. And another: you can enter a considerable amount of information, especially in billing, and then be told it can't be stored because it isn't properly allocated, or whatever. Can't they store it and flag it so you can return? I've wasted a lot of time here. There's no way to know in advance that you'll lose the information until you go to save it.

Pros

I like the electronic billing feature and the fact that it receives and allows recording of Electronic Remittance Advice from payers; the scheduling feature; ease of entering initial billing information from electronic ERAs (though there are other huge problems with billing); some aspects of the notes section; customer support by phone (but not via email); hours available for phone support, including weekend; other areas I'm not thinking of at the moment. Even though I can't recommend it, I do think it has many strengths.

Cons

(1) The billing area has countless flaws that my husband, a software developer on Mac and Windows for nearly 40 years, has called to their attention to no avail. When I note these weaknesses, they sound like it's the first time they've heard about it and "pass it on to their team." If you work with Medicare clients or clients who rely on two insurers, watch out. Most Medicare patients have secondary insurance that does not show up in the billing area so that you basically have to use a cumbersome process to enter secondary payment, and it's not immediately clear who paid what, as payments by each don't show up side-by-side in Billing, each associated with the proper payer. If you aren't a provider for the secondary, you have to use a "trick" to enter it. It is not intuitive overall. (2) While phone support is good, email is poor. I write in thorough explanation of the problem so that it can be solved in one go. Most times I write to them, I get a condescending first response that blows me off and requires another complex email essentially conveying the same information. (3) There is no manual. They've been in business too long for this. (4) The articles don't cover enough. For example, I entered "set place of service." Sounds easy, but no hits. (5) They put a lot of resources into tele-therapy when the pandemic hit, which appeared to divert programmers. They make lots of money; why not hire more?

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

I read about it and it struck me as the best product among the few on the market at the time. I bought it when it just came to market, as I recall, and there were few other programs available.

Thanks for your feedback. We'll be reaching out directly, particularly so we can clarify what billing issues you're seeing. 1. We're unaware of what flaws you're referring to but, hope to learn more. We do have some improvements coming out soon to improve secondary insurance, so hopefully this will address your concern. 2. We will look into why you received poor email support. The people that answer email are the same people that provide stellar phone support. 3. We have no plans to have a printed manual. The Help Center (support.therapynotes.com) is our digital manual. 4. If you can't find your answers in the help center, please call for support and we'll help out. We are readily available. I agree there's an opportunity to add more content. 5. We didn't divert anyone to work on telehealth. There are 6 development teams, one of which was already working on Telehealth. We are always hiring more developers.

### "SIx-year User of Therapy Notes--Couldn't Be Happier"

January 12, 2022

5.0

They have the nicest, most helpful customer service of any company with which I have ever interacted. I'm serious. They pick up the phone, they actually help you, and they are exceeding pleasant the whole time. They even send you articles, You Tube videos, and email summaries (w/o you asking) so that you have something to further illuminate what they have told you and serve as a reference in the future.

Pros

The framework for the notes look like they are designed by a medical malpractice attorney or your malpractice insurance carrier (former attorney here). They cover every base and I love it, kidding aside, because it ensures that I am providing the top level of care to my patients (Did I check whether Pt had SI? What did Pt say vs. my perception of them?) Plus, I can customize the notes and carry over portions of former notes to make note writing more efficient for me.

Cons

I haven't found any mental health EHR that is doing this (only the really large, expensive medical programs), but I would pay more if TN could add a patient direct payment system to the Portal. I'm thinking that, with time, this is something that they will offer.

Reason for choosing TherapyNotes, LLC

I read several "Best EHR" articles and they all kept pointing to TN. Also, when I called to talk to the different EHR companies, TN was the friendliest.

### "Not for med providers"

January 31, 2024

3.0

Not made for psychiatric medication providers. The support and development team is not very open to suggestions on how to develop templates to be more user-friendly for providers. The medication database is outdated and missing many current medications, when notified support about psychiatry templates missing medications, I was told that the matter would be looked at over a month ago, and no response. The TherapyNotes system is repeatedly lagging and freezing during the afternoon, it is not because of Wifi as I connect to the internet via ethernet cable, it does not matter if I am the only person in the building or not, it still lags and freezes. There is no patient messaging system as most medication providers have for patients, this just means pt have to contact via email and another internet screen has to be open. So use with caution.

Pros

Build in telehealth system Appointment reminders by email and SMS

Cons

Outdated medication database for psych meds, no none psych med selection Outdated ICD10 codes Outdated possible diagnosis for medications E-prescribe and progress notes are not linked Poor and limited selection of medical conditions No lab integration Very limited outcome measures
