It fills the gap and is a very good tool to fulfil safeguarding duty. Pros The software is designed to monitor students activity on their computers. I am currently using the Classic version, which is locally and not could managed. It is a really handy piece of software helping teachers to check what students do, help them if needed, by taking over control of the device. It allows to selectively block or allow Apps, websites to keep students focused on the task given. Another handy functionality is the ability to do tests and have them automatically checked. It also allows the teacher to show student work to a whole class. I can't omit the fact, that with the server add-on, I can track a history of student activity across the devices. Cons It would be nice if LanSchool had an autoupdate functionality or at least emailing, when new version is released. I have to periodically go and check if a new version is released. Pros We like the features like website white/black lists, USB blocking, etc. Nice that you can setup channels to isolate different physical testing sites. Cons The organization of machines is not the best I've seen, the quality and speed of the image is no the best either, and only one person at a time can remote into a station, which is annoying if you want assistance from IT personnel. It's very cut and dry as to what it does and what it is used for. Cons It's just very buggy, some computers show up on the list initially and others require typing in the settings several times for it to take. Also, it was not set up to manage in a centralized location for each computer lab so whenever we would make a network change it was a tedious process to make adjustments in each individual classroom. You can quickly check what students are doing on their laptops as well as blank screens when necessary. If you want to limit the websites your students can go to, you easily can. Cons There is a slight hesitation between what students have on their screen vs. what is shown on LanSchool. Some students have found a way to get around LanSchool and have their screens locked. It's been a game changer in my classroom. Pros I absolutely love LanSchool. Teachers don't always have the ability to walk around the room making sure everyone is on task at all times. LanSchool allows me to work with a small group, while still being informed about what my students are doing on their computer. LanSchool provides a pictures of each student's screen allowing me to quickly scroll through to see if everyone is on task. For students that aren't on task, you can message them, push the correct website to their screen, cut off access to any other website that is not the one they're supposed to be on, or pause their screen all together to make an announcement. You can do all of these things individually, or for the whole class. Cons I have no cons for LanSchool. It is a very simplistic website, but it does exactly what I need it to do. Pros Lanschool is a great easy to use remote access software for schools, it allows easy monitoring of both student and staff computers. Its also great for both teachers and administrators allowing teachers just to be limited to see and moderate students. Cons Although this doesn't affect the function of the software it does have an out of date design which may turn off new users to it.
