They've made it easy for me to do payroll when I've never had to do it myself before. Pros Two thing, first, I've never run payroll before and yet I found it relatively easy to do it using Patriot. Their customer service people were also available and eager to help. Second, they collect all the taxes for me, from local to federal, which was a big draw for me. Cons I'd like to see the software offer auto payroll, which I've read may be coming later this year. I'd also like to be able to dynamically amend/revise payroll runs without voiding the whole thing to make a correction. Overall, it's very intuitive and makes my job easier, all at a very fair price. Pros Very easy to use and easy on the budget. Customer service is top-notch! Love that they file the tax forms for me. One less thing for me to do. Cons Wish the vacation accrual time worked for me, but there doesn't appear to be a way to set a date that hours stop accruing. The only option is to set an accrual max limit which didn't work because people use their accrued time and therefore accrued time never reached the max. Managing my accounts couldn't be easier from adding clients, monitoring amounts owed to easily including 1099 contract vendors. Pros I couldn't be happier with my Patriot Accounting program. From the very beginning the customer support was exceptional. I was worried about leaving my existing expensive desktop program I had been using for years, but after talking with customer support I found there was no downside. I was able to start with Patriot, set up my accounts and use it for 30 days to see if it was a good fit before I cancelled my existing program. Every component of the program worked perfectly for me from invoicing my clients, receiving payments through their online payment program and duplicating my expenses and revenue accounts. I was concerned about the financial management program which I rely on for making my tax preparation easy. After 30 days I was able to reconcile my account easily and saw that every feature I needed to run my small business was included. Their security features for the Patriot Software, along with the Value for the money was more then I expected. Thank you Patriot Software Team for a great program and customer support. I would recommend your company to anyone looking for a secure accounting program that doesn't break the bank. Cons The response by email with questions did take longer then was stipulated. I found that calling customer service was quicker and being able to be online with the rep helped a lot. I have never had an issue since I started. Pros I'm a small business and payroll services were outrageously expensive, this is such a perfect alternative for us versus ADP etc. Also knowing that I don't have to worry about the 940 and 941 filings makes that alone worth the price. Cons Honestly it's my own fault but I don't have it integrated in to our quickbooks so I have to manually enter the checks but again I'm a small business and it takes less than 5 minutes to do it. Pros Hands down the best part of this software is the customer support. Having moved from Quickbooks where you can never talk to anyone about anything, the customer support is next level with almost immediate chat response times and the ability to resolve most questions right away. Cons The downside is that it is much more limited in some functions. It is limited in your ability to track different jobs or workers comp codes easily. This software is certainly built for ease of use and affordability, but it does lack in a few features that would benefit customers who are in industries that require more tracking of where and what employees are doing. Our employees do complain about the app sometimes, but not enough for us to go back to Quickbooks. Pros I absolutely love the ease of using the Patriot Software and the fantastic client support. Learning to navigate the software was a breeze compared to our old software. All of this for what I consider a great price. I haven't had a chance to set up the export to our QuickBooks yet, but I'm eager to get it done. It was a perfect fit for us, and we immediately implemented it in 2017, and haven't changed or even considered changing since then, even through our renewed growth. Pros The value of the program and ease of processing payroll for our small company. It provides very detailed reports, and is very easy to navigate the system. Cons Haven't found anything yet! Every report, every aspect, every output product, even through updates to the software, has been easy to implement and utilize in our ancillary programs. We recently converted to direct deposit without hiccups. The printed documentation as well as the how to videos are extremely beneficial. The employee payroll portal allow for employees to enter their own bank account information is a value add. Pros The price for the features offered is perfect for start up businesses. The software grows as your business grows and you can enjoy the bells and whistles that the software has to offer. Cons You can't save the payroll you've enter; add an employee; and pick up where you left off. The only tax form offered for quarterly taxes is federal 941. I would like to see State forms available as well. Pros It's really easy to setup and use. The auto taxes and filings work great. The year end package is very complete. Patriot Payroll even allows 1099 e-filing which is simple to use. Cons It's probably there, but I haven't found where to print auto deposited paystubs. You don't get confirmation of tax filings until after the following month, but you can check the status of the filings. It is simple enough with a little help from tech support I am able to keep track of my accounting and hand it over to my accountant at years end to close out my books. Pros Great value for the money. The learning curve was very short and I was able to import my Quickbooks company data some what painlessly. Cons I would like my invoices to have a different mail to address other than my company address. I would like payments to be sent to a PO Box. This is common to many companies. March 6, 2026 5.0 I would suggest Patriot payroll, the ease of use, value and customer support are great. 2025 was the first year I used it so when it came time for the W2's I had a few questions and I contacted customer support (right on the computer) and she walked me through step by step. She was very helpful and patient with me. Pros I think it is very easy to use. Any questions I had I clicked on "help" and it gave me the link for the everything I was looking for. I also think the price is great, I was using Quickbooks prior and the price was getting ridiculous. Cons The only thing I don't like is when I am doing payroll and if I want to make a wage change for someone, I have to start my payroll all over. The hours I entered in already don't save. If my practice grows, I will probably get their bookkeeping software as well, but right now I'm small enough that I don't need it yet. Pros The ease of use is the best thing about Patriot Payroll. I was able to set it up without much problem. I have a background in accounting, so I'm not sure how easy it would be if you knew nothing about payroll, but someone who has kept books should be able to do it no problem. Also, their customer support was amazing. I couldn't remember if I'd selected something for the taxes and I wrote their support and the responded within a few hours. The value is great too - the penalties are steep for messing up payroll and so full service payroll is less than the cost of a steak dinner every month. Right now I'm the only employee, but I feel confident that if I bring on staff, that I will not have any trouble setting up compliant payroll for an employee. Forget these huge corporate conglomerates that don't care about you, go with these guys! Cons Nothing at all. We recommend it often. It is one of the few services we have that we haven't changed or considered changing during the lifespan of our business. Pros Patriot Payroll has a learning curve but it's not difficult and there are plenty of helpful FAQ and instructions, as well as customer service available by chat or phone. I like how, now that we've been using it, it's easy to do our bi-weekly payroll. Overall, though, what I like most about Patriot Payroll is the customer service. We'd had few issues, or questions, but each time we've been helped promptly by someone who genuinely seems to care about helping. That's not common these days. Cons It's a bit rigid and not entirely intuitive until you get the hang of it. More video tutorials or even a "Patriot Payroll 101" online orientation class may be useful.
