### "Save yourself a Headache"

January 7, 2025

1.0

Absolutely horrible! We ask for basic functionality like integration with Paypal, Square, not have our event drop off the calendar day of event, or a dynamic token for events and the answer is always the same, we do not have that functionality please put it in our suggestions portal. Visit the suggestions page and there are requests going back years that have been un touched. What ever you do, do not use this CRM as it will be quite painful if you make the migration.

Pros

Can't think of anything positive about this CRM.

Cons

Integration with POS like Square or Paypal. If you want to use these other POS systems for re-occuring memberships/doners its not possible. they force you to use Neon Pay which does not even have NFC tech capabilities or work on a IOS or Android device.

### "My Neon Experience"

March 7, 2025

2.0

Overall my experience has been okay but it could be better

Pros

I like some of the features offered. The monetary tracking and reporting tools are nice.

Cons

The data is inconsistent because of the required suffix and the site is hard to navigates when creating things like event.

### "First impressions of Neon CRM"

February 17, 2026

5.0

Pros

Neon CRM spotted us to keep our donor data into one consolidated system and helps us track measures related to philanthropic efforts over time.

Cons

At the moment, our organization is fairly new to Neon CRM and have yet to run into any issues with the system.

### "Neon CRM for a very small non-profit."

September 1, 2023

5.0

As a very, very small non-profit, we had been using a patchwork of (mostly free) digital products to manage client lists, event management, registration, and fundraising. For a modest cost, we have now integrated all of those functions into a single online system - which has saved us countless hours of time and provides vastly superior access to meaningful, and accurate, data.

Pros

We started out using Neon strictly as an event management and online registration system. We thought it might take a year or so for us to get fully comfortable with those features before we were ready to add fundraising and other features. Instead, it went so smoothly that after a few months we were already shifting to Neon for online donations and fundraising activities.

Cons

Some of the communication features are still being developed, so it takes a bit of training to understand how to efficiently develop and manage things like email campaigns - but those are all improving rapidly and continue to get better.

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

Neon represented the best value for the set of features that are most critical for us, and offered a straightforward implementation for a small company with very little existing data to transfer, yet significant room for growth.

### "Exceptional Software for Building a Seamless Donation Process and Positive Donor Experience "

September 1, 2023

5.0

Upgrading from an Excel donor database to Neon has brought our organization to a new level that I didn't anticipate. Beyond safely organizing donor information and easily exporting donor reports (expected), we now have a seamless donation process that allows us to quickly thank donors and keep in contact with them, showing our appreciation and cultivating long-term donor relationships (i.e., beautiful online donations forms, automated acknowledgement/thank you emails for donors, easy-to-use email marketing builder for donors and e-list subscribers).

Pros

Donor/donation information is well organized and easy to navigate to. We've used the custom online donations form feature for receiving donations through our website, as well as a temporary crowdfunding campaign, and it's intuitive to build out professional-looking forms that rival national and international non-profit forms.

Cons

It can be tricky to get customer support for questions and issues that arise. I would prefer to have quick, direct access to phone conversations with agents to work through things and make suggestions for improvements.

Hey Lauren, thanks so much for the thoughtful review! Having powerful donation forms for a variety of use cases is crucial, and we love hearing about your positive experience with them! We do offer additional phone support for a small monthly fee, if that is something that would interest you and your team. On top of that, you can also attend our group training sessions each week to get your questions answered and walk through some best practices with your Neon CRM peers and our professional services team!

### "Thoughts & Enhancement Suggestions."

September 5, 2023

4.0

I do like this program for its donation and I love the Neone ONe Library with videos and self-training. However, this product does not fully meet our needs, and I am having difficulty convincing Board Members to use Neon One. Some will not log in.

Pros

I love that almost everything is in one place.

Cons

I am upset with the increasing yearly pricing. It is becoming too expensive for our needs. We must separately pay to use Quickbooks, perform Board Management, locate an electronic Membership Card service, and pay for additional training to customize our experience further.

### "Has value; clunky in some uses; Customer Support is slow"

December 6, 2023

3.0

I inherited this platform. While I've spent time to try and learn how to make it work best for my organization, there are still bugs that make the user experience less than optimal. If it weren't such a hassle to try and implement a new CRM solution, I'd consider switching.

Pros

The ability to track and monitor donations, fundraising activities, and donor records is valuable and easy to navigate.

Cons

Some features are clunky. Web design leads quite a bit to be desired. Toggling through screens seems unnecessary at times. Compatability with other similar tools for integration are often not easy to set up, and seem overly costly. Customer support takes way too long to resolve, while multiple automated emails seem to want to close a ticket rather than humans seeking to help client users. No real way to contact user support rather than email tickets via the automated online assistant.

Review Source

Response from Neon One

December 7, 2023

Hey Joey, thanks for your review! It sounds like your org has been using tons of the functionalities in Neon CRM like tracking and monitoring donations, fundraising campaigns, and maintaining donor records. Pretty much all of our integrations have no recurring costs associated. All of our packages do include unlimited email/ticket support, as well as access to our support center, neon one academy, live group trainings, and open office hours. It seems like signing up for open hours or our live group trainings might help alleviate some of the wait times you're experiencing, while also gaining access to one of our team members. If you do wish to purchase additional support options, you can add-on phone/live chat support for a small monthly up-charge and we offer extended training hours for purchase, if that is something you think would be helpful.

### "Longtime Neon User "

December 6, 2023

4.0

Over I'm really happy with Neon. It's a great product, you get access to so much support and a robust knowledge base filled with guides and training that will help a lot. It's intuitive and really friendly. I've also seen Neon transition to building a community where you get additional support from other Neon users as well as Neon employees. When I first started there was no where to really provide feedback and now there is a portal for that and it's so nice to see actual user ideas get implemented. Neon has really made strides to make clients feel heard and valued and it shows.

Pros

I like how user friendly it is, not only was it an easy system to learn myself it's easy for staff that may not have experience with a CRM to use and feel confident using. In my past experience with different organizations and different databases there is a lot of fear and reluctance around using the database and with Neon we have 100% of our staff in the database

Cons

There are somethings Neon still has to work on that are standard in other databases. I think they'll eventually be addressed because Neon really listens to feedback but, for example, the fact that there isn't an alias field that is search bar accessible is a little frustrating. People change their names all the time, and you don't want to lose that data. I created a custom field for it but that's not search bar accessible. It doesn't hinder my ability to use the database but it is a little frustrating not to have.

### "Everything in one convenient product"

September 13, 2023

5.0

Pros

I like that there is so much information that you can log about contacts, that people can sign in, that there are websites now, that I can send out campaigns to specific groups and get helpful analytics, that we can add users rather than log into only one account, and that we can easily see who are active and inactive members.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve in terms of nomenclature and finding what you're looking for in the global settings. Filters for finding a specific set of members could be easier, but you can get used to how it works. When I went to someone for help, I ended up figuring it out before they were able to answer it for me, which took us both a long time, so I think it is not very intuitive if support staff also have trouble figuring it out.

### "Fundraising, Event, and Contact management for Non-profit "

September 6, 2023

5.0

Pros

The built-in fundraising, event registration, and contact management features have allowed us to keep everything inside of NEON. Previously we were cobbling together data from separate systems with quite a lot of Excel exporting and importing in between.

Cons

The built-in email template creation tool is powerful, but the learning curve is a little greater compared with other platforms which specialize in email marketing. After a little effort, we were able to recreate what we needed in NEON.We have not found a straightforward, built-in feature to put multiple contacts into a dedicated group for one-off purposes. It can be done, but one higher level of organization of contacts would make contact management almost perfect.

### "Neon CRM review"

September 11, 2023

4.0

Overall, Neon CRM has greatly improved our ability to track and steward donors. Our fundraising endeavors have greatly benefited as have our events. And automating many of the processes like acknowledgments has freed up more time to work on further improvements. It's been a huge improvement over the excel spreadsheets we were using previously.

Pros

The constituent portal is what really stood out for me and made me choose Neon CRM over other options.

Cons

There are certainly some features that could be improved or added. I've found donation batching to be cumbersome. There is no sustaining membership option, where a recurring donation can be counted toward a membership. And the duplicate merging process is clunky.

### "My experience with Neon CRM "

September 28, 2023

4.0

My experience, again, has mostly been positive. Initially, I encountered a learning curve but I am appreciating that curve now. I also appreciate the customer service I've received from Neon CRM. In addition to the private sessions that have been enormously helpful, I can join various courses on specific aspects of the software. I can also sit in on "Office Sessions" which has been informative. And it helps to have access to various tutorials that I can reference repeatedly if need be. All in all, it has been a very positive experience.

Pros

What I like most about NEON CRM is that it offers us the ability to have all our information at our fingertips. This really does allow all of us to be more thorough and therefore more successful in growing our nonprofit, which is just three years old. We can reference everything to determine many of our next steps.

Cons

What I like least is not being able to customize the grant pages a bit more, but truthfully, I now have grown quite used to Neon CRM, and I'm happy with how the grant pages are laid out. I also appreciate being able to add all my LOI's and grant applications as well as grant responses. Being able to reference all that information at anytime has been an enormous time saver for me.

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

Does not apply (I didn't choose it)

Amazing and have recomended them to most non profits researching for a new crm.

Pros

The customer service is what made the decision easiest for us. Responsive and listens to every concern.Administrative heachaces are lessened with automation. The CRM integrates with many programs to reduce user entry errors on the backend.

Cons

events management still needs work (9/6/23). While It is great to use and get a complete picture of the constituent, the actual designing and then the signup pages fro events is cumbersome without help.

### "Neon is good, but only if you have a team working in it - it is best for medium to large teams"

November 3, 2022

5.0

Good, but it needs to work for 2nd graders. Many nonprofits outsource data entry to volunteers and if the volunteers have a tough time using a system, so too does a nonprofit have a tough time getting the data out of it that it needs.

Pros

I like it's level of detail around donor data, as well as its dashboard.

Cons

It's not super user-friendly. It's not mobile friendly. it's report creation is challenging. It's on-demand training is not helpful.

Hi Heidi! We appreciate your honest feedback. I'd like to help address your concerns around ease-of-use and training. Our top priority right now is to make daily system use easier by working on User Interface updates, like the recent overhaul of Constituent Portal Management and upcoming File Manager improvements. We also want users to be able to learn in an interactive way on their own time, so we've recently launched an improved Neon One Academy. You can log in at https://academy.neonone.com/. Thanks again and we hope the CRM developments help to make it easier for your team, your volunteers, and you to work more efficiently. Cheers, Anna Curtis at Neon One

### "Appears to have good functionality but the proof is in the details."

November 26, 2016

3.0

We chose this software because it appeared to be able to do everything we needed it to. However, when getting into it more fully we consistently run into obstacles.

Pros

Good database function, automated emails, customized reporting.

Cons

We utilize the event module extensively and find that the functionality is difficult. The WYSIWYG feature to build an event page is difficult, you can't build sub pages for an event, no ability to have event add-on items (register for the event and buy a shirt, etc). I've had to add them into the store function and then make all events appear in the store function so that the add-on items would appear in the shopping cart with the registration - but there is no ability to customize a store item (i.e. personalization). The registration function is very confusing to our constituents in that you have to provide all information for the registrant before making the registration/ticket selection. Then the only place to put the add-on/store items is in the event registration summary page. The social fundraising functions are not terribly user friendly and intuitive. When you want to do registration discounts you can either take $ off or % off of the entire order - not off each registration when more than 1 person is registered. When I have asked about these features it has been suggested that we use Eventbright for events. We left event bright when we purchased NEON because we could save the costs with the integrated functions in NEON. Eventbright doesn't do social fundraising so this looked like a better option. And finally - duplicate accounts are a problem - especially because pricing is based upon the number of accounts. Merging/deleting accounts is a time consuming process. And, you cannot simply two accounts that should be merged (because you know they should be) unless the system identifies them based upon duplicate name, email, etc. For example - if a person registered using her home email and address for one event and then the next time she registered as that person's name using her work email the system won't recognize them as potential duplicates - and you can't manually select them to merge. The login feature we thought was good but unless you have memberships it isn't great - folks just don't log back in the next time the visit the site - they just create a new account.

There are deeper duplicate scans that can be useful, and we of course want to hear from you about how the event registration process might be simplified. In the last month, we've come out with an enhanced template feature for social fundraising for more customization and usability--we will also send you info on this. ### "Disappointing and Financially Irresponsible."

September 30, 2020

3.0

I wouldn't recommend Neon to anyone in fundraising. It is not only the volunteer module that we struggle with. In general we have a more limited capacity for pulling reports. The system tracks memberships and donations and soft credits. If you wanted to take a quick snapshot of all monies that have come into your agency between those fields it doesn't have a place that it's all collected, it's broken out in separate categories. In general the system is pretty and appears to have nice capabilities. If Neon was honest from the beginning we could have gone with a cheaper option and found something that works for our agency. Now we are stuck, spending thousands on a data transfer. If you are considering Neon, don't. Read their 'comments' in their support center - eye opening. This is a dishonest company with poor support and a subpar product.

Pros

We moved from a large popular fundraising platform and we were excited about the abilities of Neon and how it would help us with donor stewardship. They have some helpful dashboards that are great for quick tracking. The system is large and has some neat capabilities. Some of them being: sent emails tracking, workflows, advanced searches, donation page is great, and having the ability to personalize the system to the user. The account profiles are user friendly and intuitive.

Cons

This is a tough area. Fundamentally we struggle daily with reporting and customer service. We track our volunteers and our donors (often times they are one in the same) and we are unable to pull any data on volunteer hours in a month - it's only tracked in a month period and gives you a lump sum of hours. In general output information to pull data on is limited. Often times when we have questions or need help we will reach out to support and are simply just sent links to the support pages. Which by the time we've reached out we have already read those. Additionally we were excited about the chat function. The chat function only works when they have staff 'on', which is not often. I look daily and I've managed to chat with someone twice only in 6 months time. Support staff have poor attitudes and don't meet the need for help. When we were looking to purchase new software we specifically had needs for volunteers and donors. We were told the system would meet our needs - it does not. Now we are stuck going back to using excel spreadsheets and doing double work and unable to rely on a database that we pay for the top of the line features.

Switched from

[DonorPerfect](https://www.capterra.com/p/2698/DonorPerfect-Fundraising-Software/)

We switched from DonorPerfect to increase our ability for stewardship. With DonorPerfect we had grown out of the software and were looking for a system we could continue to grow into.

### "NeonCRM: A solid decade by need to move forward"

April 30, 2021

4.0

We've been using NEON for over 10 years. It has been a solid, reliable performer. We have grown from $150k to over $1M in fundraising, and NEON has supported that growth (although it is not able to make mass changes to old data as we have better understand/refine how we track donations). Although NEON has incorporated some enhancements and improvements to the user experience recently, overall they have been slow to change, and customer support is not very responsive. Support for household roll-up (including family funds/DAV) has become critical to our organization, requiring us to seek other software solutions.

Pros

Solid basic constituent and donation management. Reliable - service is rarely down or unacceptably slow. Interface is relatively easy to use for anyone with good software sensibilities (a simpler view would be helpful for less techy BOD members).

Cons

Householding support with regards to donations roll-up is very poor. Reporting, while flexible and seemingly comprehensive, often requires export and external manipulation to get what we want. Organization is not responsive to customer requests - with popular suggestions in forum going unaddressed for years.

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

### "Beginner Picking Up from Prior Admins"

December 15, 2023

4.0

Overwhelmed. I am the only employee in a nonprofit that has over 200 members so much of my time is spoken for and though I need to give Neon CRM time and attention, I feel guilty doing so and thus get distracted when I am going through training processes so I feel I am not retaining the info I'm reading/watching.

Pros

I can see the potential of it being very effective in our organization but again, having a hard time locating implementation documents a prior administration set up or where things were left off.

Cons

The Neon One Academy seems to have most of the information I need to navigate and learn but it does not keep track of where I left off in the training modules so I am constantly trying to remember where I to restart when I am able to revisit the trainings. There also seems to be lots of the same training info in different places so I get confused as to what or where to go next. Also having a hard time trying to figure out how to use all relevant features without using Neon Pay for any of them. (Due to our org having to use our fiscal agent's financial processing system, Stripe.)

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

I did not choose Neon CRM, the organization had the subscription (and had to pause it due to no one fully understanding how to utilize) prior to me arriving in my position.

I'm glad you've been able to find some value out of Neon One Academy. If you haven't already, I'd suggest enrolling in the orientation course (https://academy.neonone.com/page/neon-crm-orientation). Another resource that could be fruitful for you is our open office hours. you can pop int a zoom room with our consulting team to get your questions answered in real time (https://academy.neonone.com/page/neon-crm-live-trainings). ### "NEONCRM is solid"

December 6, 2023

4.0

Pretty solid platform - I enjoy using it.

Pros

Neon gets the job done and is pretty intuitive. I use it several times a day and find it to be easy to use.

Cons

I don't like the barriers to customer service/tech support. Often times I need a very quick question answered to move forward, and I'm delayed by several days becasue I have to schedule a call. I wish the app had not been abandoned. I wish the tribute gift function was more functional - during the reconciliation process, it would be nice to have a checkbox to mark when an acknowledgement card was sent to the honoree.

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

Functionality and ease of use. Value was also a big part.

### "Great for managing renewals, not useful for team overall"

October 18, 2023

4.0

One of the main reasons we wanted to a CRM to track a schools participation doesn't really work. We are considering other platforms that might be able to offer this.

Pros

Since switching to Neon processing membership renewals has been a million times easier. I can see easily how may years someone has been a member, what they have paid, the tier they should be at and I can easily communicate all this when their membership expires. Folks can easily become members through our site as well. Membership retention has been successful and my job has been easier.

Cons

I had hoped that with the eventbrite integration that I could go to a school and see everyone who had participated in a program. We do not offer individual memberships, but that is the only way that neon is set up. I want to be able to see how a school is using their membership through program participation year to year, but it is still impossible to run a report or see this easily. For this reason and many others, nobody on my team is using the platform. I looked and nobody had logged in for years! I have deemed it a non-useful tool for this reason.

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

We were told that it had a nonprofit focus and that they were always evolving and listening to customer feedback. Even if we didn't have all the functionality now, we could expect more to be added.

### "Run do not walk away!"

Bait and switch. Lots of unfulfilled promises. Lack of honesty and support.

Pros

Not much really. Maybe resolving duplicate member records?

Cons

Deceptive sales practices. Lack of basic functionality. Inept support. Egregious charges if you don’t use their payment processing.

### "Great Donor Management Software"

February 22, 2021

5.0

Overall we are very happy to NeonCRM. My one and only concern is the customer support and account management seems to be lacking a bit. I get emails often regarding "changes" to our account that in face do not affect us because we are currently on a contract with NEON. With staff overturn you never know who your account manager is (I have worked with 5 account managers in a matter of 2 years. The software is great and we will continue to use it as we find that it is very helpful for what we are doing.

Pros

Coming from Blackbuad and Raiser's Edge, it was really important to find a software that was user friendly and easy to learn. NeonCRM is that software. You don't need a ton of training to navigate around the system and find what you are looking for.

Cons

Our hope was this software would be able to take the place of many of our others and put things in one place. Although it was able to do that for a majority we still hope to see an auction component to NeonCRM. This was one of the items that was discussed when we were looking at software and our rep mentioned Neon was working at an integration for this in the future and still waiting for it.

Because of how difficult Raiser's Edge is to use.

Hi Lauren! Thank you for your open and honest feedback. Regarding the auction component, we do have a certified integration with ClickBid. You can learn more about that integration here: https://neonone.com/partners/clickbid/.

### "Simple and Straightforward"

September 21, 2023

4.0

Overall, Neon CRM is a great product for the cost. As a smaller nonprofit, most of our budget goes directly back into youth programs.

Pros

Neon CRM is a simple, straightforward tool. It's easy to use and there are a lot of resources and tools to help onboard new users. It's cost-effective for our nonprofit and enables us to track donors, volunteers, and donations in one place.

Cons

A feature that could be improved at our subscription level is the ability to automate workflows. As it is, we have to manually pull reports to see if donors need to be contacted, moved along the pipeline, etc. It would be a huge improvement if Neon CRM offered a budget friendly alternative that enabled us to set contact on a pipeline and receive reminders when it's time to move them along.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Neon CRM

At this time, Neon CRM is the most effective for our budget. We've also been pretty satisfied with it over the years, so even when prices increased we still felt like it was meeting our immediate needs.

### "User Friendly"

September 1, 2023

5.0

Pros

I have worked in a few CRMs since starting my career, and Neon CRM is the most user friendly. Also, the help section is wonderful and easy to understand. If I cannot find an answer, customer service is prompt and helpful.

Cons

It would be nice if Neon had more capabilities for events such as a silent auction/raffle function.

### "I Like Neon CRM But There's Always Room For Improvement"

September 8, 2023

4.0

I like Neon. The CS team is great, but, like I said, I wish I wouldn't get the "no service representatives are available" recording when we've paid for phone support. We also had to drop the Web integration. Only one support person at the time.

Pros

Knowledgable customer service, very helpful.

Cons

Great customer service...when you can get them. We are paying for phone support but rarely get someone to actually answer the phone. Two to three days to get a response although the last few times have been better. (Note: I do understand that customer service staffing issues are an industry problem, but it is also an issue when you need answers but have to wait for them).Designing Mail Campaigns--We were actually told by CS early on that we may want to use MailChimp. Then you came out woth your new and improved version, but it still wasn't up to the design and functionality quality of MC to make it worth moving back. I wish it were, though. That is one reason we chose Neon, for it's 'one-stop shop' but we had to go outside.
