Pros

PTV Vissim is an outstanding tool for traffic engineering analysis and visualization. What I appreciate most is its ability to simulate complex traffic scenarios with high precision, making it an essential asset for highway operators. The visual interface allows for intuitive understanding of traffic flow, bottlenecks, and operational impacts, which supports strategic decision-making. Vissim helps engineers and planners evaluate infrastructure changes, optimize signal timing, and assess the effects of incidents or roadworks. Its flexibility and depth of analysis make it a powerful platform not only for technical studies but also for communicating solutions to stakeholders. For traffic professionals, it’s truly indispensable.

Cons

While PTV Vissim is a powerful tool, one limitation I’ve encountered relates to network modeling capabilities. My current license does not include the Dynamic Assignment feature, which restricts me to static modeling only. This limits the ability to simulate more realistic route choice behavior based on traffic conditions. Although this is specific to my license, it highlights how certain advanced functionalities are only available in higher-tier versions. For highway operators and traffic engineers seeking deeper behavioral analysis, access to dynamic features would significantly enhance decision-making. Despite this, the tool remains highly valuable for many traffic engineering applications.

Vor allem Laien und politische Entscheidungsträger lassen sich damit sehr beeindrucken. Für eine Anwendung mit Aussagekraft wird Erfahrung und Ausdauer benötigt.

Pros

Die optische Darstellung am Bildschirm ist sehr gut. Vor allem für Öffentlichkeitsarbeit ist VISSIM ein gutes Tool.

Cons

Die Handhabung der Vorrangregeln, insbesondere der Querverkehrsstörungen ist sehr mühsam. Kleine Änderungen beeinflussen das Ergebnis.

I've been using Vissim over 20 years and it is continually one of the best tools for realistic modeling of traffic flows.

Pros

Power to realistically model field traffic conditions with a great precision and fidelity. Also, numerous ways to model advanced traffic control operations.

Cons

Complexity. Novice users could get lost in many options that the software offers. Initial learning investment is needed for new users to catch up with software capabilities.

My overall experience was engaging and eye-opening. I liked how Vissim helped me visualize traffic dynamics and experiment with scenarios that would be hard to test in real life

Pros

I liked that it allowed me to experiment with different scenarios—like adding a new lane or changing a signal timing—and immediately understand how those decisions affect drivers and pedestrians.

Cons

As a student, the only thing I liked least was the limitations of the academic license — some advanced functions weren’t available, and I wished I could test them.

Primeiro contato com o PTV vissim. As múltiplas possibilidades de configuração permitem uma excelente representação dos modelo.

Pros

A representação gráfica da simulação permite apresentar a modelagem para o público não técnico com certa facilidade.

Cons

Não é possível importar a malha viária diretamente dos mapas. A modelagem é realizada por decalque no mapa.

Muito boa. Sou usuário há um tempo e recomendo bastante. Útil para aulas e para o mercado técnico e fácil de explicar.

Pros

Fácil de usar e fácil de entender. Com boa interface para mostrar a usuários leigos no tema. Programa muito intuitivo.

Cons

Ainda precisar criar os links e nós um por um manualmente. Seria ótimo se fosse possível criar informando os trechos a serem simulados e o programa pudesse criar os links em cima dos mapas.

Pros

The fact that we can draw the network without depending on nodes to add links and connections. Also the manual is extremely complete and self-explanatory.

Cons

It could be easier to implement solutions using python. Maybe it is, but it is not clearly explained by the manual.

Minha experiência até o momento foi bem básica, fazendo modelos simples. No geral tive boas experiências e a equipe da ptv sempre foi muito solicita quando necessitei tirar dúvidas.

A diversidade de opções para modelagem de situações reais. Facilidade de usar o modelo 3D e mapas e imagens de satélite de plano de fundo

Cons

Alguns recursos não são tão intuitivos, especialmente na parte de comparação de resultados e elaboração de gráficos

Very useful and full of options. A really remarkable software for transport analysts or specialists.

Cons

The user interface could be better. The amount of windows isn't very friendly to new users. A central database where you could see all the elements in an easy way would help

Já havia tido contato visual. Porém, desta fez com o minicurso percebi o quanto a ferramenta pode ser poderosa no setor público para o planejamento de trânsito e transporte

Pros

Interface e facilidade de uso. Software contempla uma gama de funções e parâmetros e deixam as simulações muito próximas da realidade.

Cons

Apesar do uso facilitado, requer bastante cuidado na parametrização da simulação. Ao inserir algo inviável, o software pode simular sem indicar que a tal restrição é inviável, exigindo bastante conhecimento do usuário para seu correto uso.
